No change in American’s lounge access policy for OneWorld Sapphire/Emerald members!

Yesterday morning I posted about a change in verbiage on the OneWorld website, which seemed to suggest that OneWorld Sapphire and Emerald members with foreign carriers no longer had access to American lounges when traveling on domestic itineraries. While American only allows their own Sapphire and Emerald members to access lounges when on international itineraries, the same has never been true for those with status in a foreign program.

Fortunately it seemed to be a misunderstanding, as confirmed by @AmericanAir on Twitter:

Whew, that was a close call!

  1. Does that go for Flagship Lounge access policies too, or is their tweet cutely worded to exclude it?

  2. @ StvR – Yeah, looks like someone at AA/OW has been taking some peeks at the AS playbook 😉

  3. I just don’t understand how that would happen unless American told oneworld to do that. I have to imagine they did that to see what the reaction was, and clearly it wasn’t good.

  4. The mistake here might have been oneWorld publishing a future rule change before the PR effort has begun to tell us about the new “enhancements” to lounge access. I think I’ve seen this movie before.
