My go to credit card for quite some time now has been the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, which is not only one of the most rewarding cards for everyday spend, but also has a great sign-up bonus of 50,000 points after spending $2,000 within three months. Last week Chase reduced the sign-up bonus and marketing materials on the card to reflect a new 40,000 point bonus, though for whatever reason they didn’t yet update the affiliate links. It was only a matter of time before that happened, and it seems like that time has finally come, as Chase is pulling those links as of Tuesday, April 3. So if you want to apply for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card under the old bonus, you’ll want to do so in the next few days.

You can check out this post for a rundown of Chase Sapphire Preferred benefits. As you can see, between the waived foreign transaction fees, double points on travel and dining, it’s by far one of the best cards out there, and I’ll certainly be sad to see this offer reduced.

  1. And for a not-so-related question, what’s your recommendation for category 4 Hyatts on the West Coast? Andaz West Hollywood? Girlfriend and I just got our annual award nights.

  2. @ NYinSF — My favorite is the Andaz West Hollywood followed by the Grand Hyatt Seattle. Both great hotels. Let me know if you have any other questions!

  3. My guess is that this has more to do with Sapphire Preferred reaching its target number, rather than a broad reduction in sign-up bonus.

The promotional (print) material I received last week on United MP Explorer Card offered up to 60,000 bonus miles:
    +50,000 miles after first use
+10,000 miles for spending $25k in a year
    *Apply by May 31

In comparison, both UA and Chase websites offer only up to 40,000 bonus miles on United MP Explorer Card:
    +25,000 miles after first use
+10,000 miles for spending $25k in a year
+5,000 miles for adding an authorized user

  4. what I want to know is did anyone get it right in the contest? I like how they didn’t make it the 1st of the month…. Or the first Monday…… Do we have a winner, or are we going lotto?

  5. United does targeted offers for the MP Explorer. All ads say 40K, but when I log into, I get the 60K offer and mailings say 60K (I’m Premier Gold).

  6. @lucky I saw you had the drawing and winner, but at this point Rodney should roll with it and get that lottery ticket with the hot hand…. Nice job!
