1. Nice write up. It’s annoying that AA requires NA-Africa to be trans-Atlantic. Flying out of HNL, I could get there with 1 stop in SYD if they let me fly the most direct route.

  2. I did the Alaska award in CX F, plus the AS gateway flights in F, and it was fantastic. Now the trip back was a bit long, as I used my stopover in HK on the outbound. But Africa was an incredible experience, the trip of a lifetime. I highly recommend Kruger National Park.

Also, CX only offers F to JNB for a limited time of year, i think the South African summer. I went in December and there was tons of availability.

  3. I must disagree with your assertion that KQ is excellent about releasing award space. They might be the most stingy airline I have EVER dealt with with regards to awards. I have NEVER once been able to redeem miles on KQ, and this is as an Elite Plus (Plat/Gold) member of their own Flying Blue program.

  4. Hello Ben from Zimbabwe. I flew down via Frankfurt. Very much enjoyed the SA product. Good service, food food, new plane.

  5. Can’t believe you didn’t mention SN’s awesome African route network, nor LX/LH to Africa too… 😉

  6. Nice article. I’ve had good luck using my “skypesos” to fly from the USA to somewhat obscure West African capitals via Air France.

Air France really does have flights to a lot of West African destinations.
