This week on 10 Best International First Class Seats for Award Travel

Check out my weekly column over at This week I share what I consider to be the best first class products for award redemptions. In other words, the airlines with the best combination of a great first class product and good award availability.

  1. No Emirates? They at least have to make it on the list, no? I know they may be too glitzy for some, but I would rate it in the top 10.

  2. Glad to see Cathay Pacific on the list…my wife and I used our AA miles from the Citi bonus bonanza to book r/t F/J tickets from MIA-DPS. Originally going there via Toronto and home via Vancouver, but the 773 on YYZ-HKG was swapped to one without F, so we politely asked (and were switched) to a much better routing through JFK. Now we get to try F on the 777 and 747 (HKG-YVR) plus upper deck J on the 747…hooray!

  3. I’m surprised you gave Etihad’s food the same ranking as Luftansa’s or Thai’s or…well, any of them lol At least the others have a more full menu than Etihad. That was a pretty skimpy menu selection…

Also, I heard Asiana and ANA have new first class seats…time to revisit them, perhaps, and see how their new product ranks now.

  4. I like Cathay First the best, especially on the 747. Now if only their ground service was a bit better, although I really do like their new lounge at SFO.

  5. @ Calvin — The issue is that they don’t partner with many programs, so while they have good availability, 90% of people don’t have an easy way of using miles for travel on them.
