50% off AAdvantage award redemptions on select JAL flights!

American AAdvantage is offering discounted award redemptions for travel on Japan Airlines on select routes.

For bookings made by November 1 for travel between November 1 and February 29, 2012, American is offering 50% off award redemptions on Japan Airlines between San Francisco and Tokyo Haneda as well as award redemptions on Japan Airlines between Vancouver and Tokyo Narita. Through this offer a business class award ticket costs 50,000 miles roundtrip and a coach award ticket costs 30,000 miles roundtrip.

This offer applies exclusively to the nonstop flights, so if you need to connect from elsewhere I suspect it will price at the normal award redemptions levels.

As noted by Gary, this is winter in Japan, so I suspect it’s a combination of being the low travel season along with the fact that Japan tourism is way down.

  1. The real question: How is JAL Business Class? And why not support JAL First class with this promotion?

  2. @ Paladin — Probably because JAL doesn’t offer a first class product on either of the routes that this promotion applies to.

  3. Not the latest J class seats on those routes (YVR uses a 767 with old recliner seats). JL’s newest J class seats aren’t even 180 flat.

  4. Another reason is probably the awkward arrival time in HND (ex SFO), if you need to connect to somewhere else.

  5. @Mike Smith

The newest J seat, the JAL Shell Flat NEO is 180 flat, but is only on JFK/ORD/LAX/CGK, the aircraft with the F suites.
