30% transfer bonus to British Airways from Membership Rewards

American Express is currently offering a 30% transfer bonus of Membership Rewards points to British Airways. I’m not sure for how long the offer will be valid, but for certain types of awards, this has killer potential. For example, an award from North America to South America in business class on a single airline (like LAN) is usually 80,000 miles, so this knocks the price down to just over 60,000 Membership Rewards points for such an award.

To add to this, it’s also worth noting that British Airways is targeting certain Signature Visa cardmembers with a 20% mileage refund for an award booked entirely on British Airways metal. I wasn’t targeted, but if you were, these two promotions could work quite nicely together, especially if you’re also throwing in a 2-for-1 companion certificate.

  1. @ Ivan — Wow!!! I don’t see that, maybe these are targeted.

@ aussie — You need you log into your Membership Rewards account to see this. It’s likely only for US accounts, though, and may be targeted at that.

  2. I could see a BA bonus but not one for AC. I did a MR transfer to BA earlier this year and never have for AC.

  3. argh, seriously? I just transffered 63,000 miles last month because I did not want to miss the 20% bonus.

  4. I was targetted by BA for the mileage refund. It’s got me thinking about using some of the 100,000 credit card bonus miles I received earlier this year.

  5. I log into your Membership Rewards account, but I don’t see any offers mentioned here and I am US based. Exactly where you see it in Membership Reward Account? Thanks!
