Starwood’s latest promotion…

Starwood has just announced a new promotion which runs through December 31. It seems like there are several versions of the offer, so you need to enter your SPG number on this page to see what your awards are.

My options, as someone that very rarely stays at SPG hotels, are as follows:

  • 4,000 bonus Starpoints
With Free Night Awards starting at 2,000 Starpoints® at Category 1 properties, you’ll already have enough for a night away.
  • $50 Award Certificate
Redeem for on-property indulgences during your next stay, including spa treatments, room service and more. An earned Award Certificate will be mailed 4–6 weeks after fifth eligible stay to the shipping address we have on file in your SPG profile.
  • 25% off redemption
Get away sooner using fewer Starpoints. Take 25% off a Free Night Award redemption of up to five nights at any Category 1–5 property. Redemption must be used by 7/31/11.

And I only get one of those options after making five stays by December 31.

Overall the promo seems pretty lame, though this can be earned in conjunction with their Free Weekend Nights offer which runs through July 31.

  1. You’re right. This is nothing to be excited about. It won’t drive my business towards SPG away from others.

  2. Keep in mind that this promotion is retroactive to July 1, so if you have a handful of stays since July 1, you may already be on your way to one of these bonuses.

  3. Not lame at all since it’s stackable as long as SPG keeps the promos coming.

And don’t forget that a 25% redemption discount on a 4 (or 5) night category 5 stay is worth 12k points.

In fact, a 25% discount on a 2-night category 4 redemption is still 5000 points.

  4. There are different targeted versions of this promo. My friend, who has not had a Starwood stay since September, got the version of the offer for 4,000 points for 1 stay by August 31.

  5. I got the same offer, and am a Platinum who has already requalified. I don’t find it a particularly great promotion, but, it’s not the only promotion SPG is offering. Given their history, there will probably be at least two other offers out there. Considering that my stays in July alone are enough to qualify for this, I’m not going to really complain about it; but it’s not going to get me to switch any stays from other brands to Starwood either.

  6. Has anyone broken down which option is best depending on whether you’ll be going on vacation or not, etc.?
