Hilton to introduce new AMEX Surpass Card

Per this thread on FlyerTalk, it looks like we’ll see a new Hilton credit card with the following benefits at the end of the month:

-Up to 40,000 Hilton HHonors® bonus points with first purchase (1) — enough for up to five free nights (2)
-Up to 20,000 HHonors bonus points with first eight Hilton Family stays charged to the Card during your first 18 months of Cardmembership (3)
-HHonors Gold VIP status complimentary with your first year; to maintain thereafter, total eligible spend must reach $20,000 annually (4)
-HHonors Diamond VIP status when your total eligible spend reaches $40,000 annually (5)
-$75/year annual fee
-9 HHonors bonus points for every eligible dollar spent at participating Hilton Family hotels (6)
-6 HHonors bonus points for every eligible dollar spent at gas stations, drugstores, and more (7)
-3 HHonors bonus points for virtually every dollar spent elsewhere
-500 HHonors bonus points when you book online at any Hilton Family Hotel Website using your Card (8)

Wow! While it has a $75 annual fee, the complimentary Hilton Gold for the first year makes it worthwhile if you’re not already Gold. What really makes this card different than the normal Hilton AMEX is that you can earn Diamond status just for spending $40,000 on your credit card! The other minor difference is the 9 HH points for hotel spend, as opposed to the 6 points with the current card.

Either way, the Diamond status for $40,000 in spend might just be a reason to redistribute credit card spend a bit.

  1. That’s a good question, kneemuh. You’ll be able to “upgrade” (of course), but I’m not sure whether they can carry both.

LMAO, Oliver! First of all, I wasn’t necessarily referring to myself, but others instead. That being said, my parents have quite a bit of CC spend through their business and also personal cards, and I “advise” them on which cards to use and when to use them. That means that all the HH points they earn go into my account, since it’s linked. In this case I might just get them to put more company spend on the new HH card.

  2. Since I got HH Gold this year through a corporate fast track deal, I think I’ll wait until next year to “renew” gold with this card.
