Austrian Airlines Will Introduce Wifi & Premium Economy

Austrian already offers one of my favorite business class products of any European airline. That’s primarily thanks to their incredible catering and awesome coffee menu.

The airline recently announced that they’ll launch flights between Los Angeles and Vienna, which I’m excited about for a couple of reasons. First of all, it will be their longest US route, and one of the only US route that’s long enough to actually enjoy their service while also getting some rest on an eastbound transatlantic flight (perhaps along with Miami). On top of that, they’ve had tons of award availability on the route.

Well, it looks like there are more improvements on the way. Austrian will be introducing wifi on their shorthaul flights and premium economy on their longhaul flights over the next couple of years.

Austrian Will Fly To Los Angeles, And Has TONS Of Business Class Award Seats!

In early August I first wrote about the rumor that Austrian Airlines will be launching flights between Vienna and Los Angeles. Austrian has one of my favorite transatlantic business class products thanks to their exceptional catering, so I’d be excited to see them expand further within North America.

Well, it’s now official. Austrian Airlines will begin flying between Vienna and Los Angeles as of April 10, 2017.

The new flight will operate as follows:

OS81 Vienna to Los Angeles departing 10:00AM arriving 1:30PM
OS82 Los Angeles to Vienna departing 3:05PM arriving 12:00PM (+1 day)

The flight will initially operate 5x weekly (Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays), and as of June 12, 2017, will operate 6x weekly (just not on Sundays).

ACT FAST! Wide Open Business Class Award Space To Europe!

If you have plans to go to Europe in the next 11 months, stop everything! Star Alliance carrier Austrian Airlines has released a ridiculous amount of award space on routes to and from North America, through the end of the schedule.

How ridiculous?

Like 8+ business class award seats per flight, nearly every day, from all North American destinations to the Austrian hub in Vienna.

Typically Austrian only releases space to Star Alliance partners within 90 days of departure, so this is fantastic and rare. Seriously, you want to book this.

Rumor: Austrian To Launch Flights Between Los Angeles And Vienna In 2017

Austrian Airlines offers one of my very favorite business class soft products in the world. While their longhaul planes have staggered business class seats that I don’t really love, their soft product is incredible.

This includes their DO&CO catering, and especially their coffee menu. I don’t think any airline in the world has a stronger sugary coffee game than Austrian.

Presently Austrian’s US destinations include Chicago, Miami, New York, Newark, and Washington. The issue with those flights is that they’re not really long enough to enjoy Austrian’s incredible soft product while also getting some sleep, at least for an eastbound flight.

While it hasn’t officially been announced, rumor has it that Austrian will launch flights between Los Angeles and Vienna as of summer 2017.

Review: Austrian A320 Business Class Vienna To Frankfurt

Austrian-Business-Class-A320 - 5

As mentioned in the previous installment, at 9:45AM the HON Circle agent informed me that my 10:10AM flight to Frankfurt was ready for boarding. I packed up my bags and followed the signage towards the F Concourse, where my departure gate was located.

That was about a 5-10 minute walk through some duty free shops.

The F gates are in one long concourse, and gate F4 was fairly close to the area where I entered.

By the time I got to the gate, boarding was well underway, with just one or two dozen passengers not yet having boarded.

Review: Austrian HON Circle & First Class Lounge Vienna Airport

Austrian-HON-Circle-Lounge-Vienna - 13

For my return to the US, I redeemed 62,500 Aeroplan miles to fly from Vienna to Frankfurt to Newark, with the shorthaul segment being in Austrian business class, and the longhaul segment being in Lufthansa first class.

I got to the airport at around 8AM for my 10:10AM departure to Frankfurt.

I quite like the departures hall of Vienna Airport, at least for a medium sized airport.

I quickly found the business class check-in area, where there was no wait. I had a bit of an odd check-in experience, as I wrote about in my post entitled “Passport Psychology.”

Austrian has nicely expanded their US presence, having added flights from Vienna to Chicago and Newark over the past couple of years.

It looks like their US expansion is continuing. Per, Austrian will be starting 5x weekly flights between Vienna and Miami as of October 16, 2015.

The new flight will operate with the following schedule, every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays:

OS97 Vienna to Miami departing 9:55AM arriving 3:20PM
OS98 Miami to Vienna departing 5:10PM arriving 8:50AM (+1 day)

Austrian Business Class Award Space Next Summer

Austrian offers one of my favorite business class products in the world. Their entire longhaul fleet consists of their new staggered business class, which isn’t my favorite hard product, though every other aspect of the experience makes up for it, in my opinion.

They have an onboard chef and fantastic DO&CO catering, whereby everything is plated at your seat.

But hands down my favorite part of the Austrian business class experience is their extensive coffee menu, whereby you can custom order specialty coffees.

Austrian Airlines Onboard Chef Video

While not new, I was pointed to an interesting video about Austrian’s inflight catering today: Unfortunately the video is in German. As I’ve said a dozen times before, if there’s one reason to learn German it’s because of all of the awesome airline themed documentaries there are, especially about Lufthansa. I’ve posted lots of them…

Austrian Airlines Goes Above And Beyond

I’m a big fan of Austrian Airlines, and find they have one of the most solid business class products for travel to Europe. Their hard product is quite nice, though their service and food/drinks are spectacular. In particular I love their dedicated coffee menu, which is the most extensive in the sky. I’ve flown them…

Austrian Adds Newark Flight As Of July 2, 2014

Austrian Airlines offers one of my favorite transatlantic business class products. Naturally I’m quite excited that they just announced expansions to their US service as of next year!

The most significant announcement is that Austrian will be launching 5x weekly flights to Newark as of July 2, 2014. The new flight will be operated by a Boeing 767-300 aircraft with the following schedule:
