Review: Qantas Lounge London Heathrow Airport

In the last installment I reviewed Cathay Pacific’s excellent First Class Lounge London Heathrow. In this installment I’ll be reviewing the Business Class Lounge, which is just down the hall. I won’t be covering the hours, location, etc., so check the previous post for details on that.

When you enter the lounge, the business class section is straight down the hall.

The business class section of the lounge is way bigger than the first class section, which makes sense, given that all oneworld business class and Sapphire members can access this lounge before any oneworld flight.

As soon as you enter the business class section of the lounge you’ll see the dining area on the left. Leave it to Cathay Pacific to make cafeteria-style seating look chic.

In addition to a couple of dozen booths, there’s a communal table here as well.

Along the wall is a small drink station with soft drinks, water, and beer.

The real highlight of this area, though, is the noodle bar, which is a popular feature at many Cathay Pacific lounges. You can also choose to sit directly at the noodle bar.

The noodle bar has a pretty simple menu, and you can order Hong Kong style wonton noodles in soup, Dan Dan Mien, sweet corn congee, rice noodles with vegetables in soup, stir fried egg noodles, dim sum, or ice cream.

Once you get your noodle dish, there’s also a selection of condiments.

Past the noodle bar and cafe area is a partition, and on the other side of that is the main buffet area.

The buffet is decent though not amazing, but that’s probably because you have access to the awesome noodle bar. On one side the buffet had soft drinks, a coffee machine, and several hot dishes, including scrambled eggs, beans, potatoes, sausage, and pork.

Then there was juice, fruit salad, mixed lettuce & tomato salad, and brown rice salad.

The other side of the buffet had croissants, muffins, pastries, cereal, cold cuts, cheese, parfaits, and yogurt.

The next room was the largest one in the lounge, and featured Cathay Pacific’s typical new-style lounge design. There were dozens of seats in this area.

This area of the lounge also had the manned bar.

If you like good coffee, the bartender can make you a fresh cappuccino or espresso, which is going to be significantly better than what you’ll otherwise get in the machines in the lounge.

The back left corner of the lounge had eight semi-private seats facing the window, which would probably be my preferred place to sit in the lounge.

Each of them had pillows and a little table, so they’re perfect regardless of whether you want to relax, work, or eat.

Next to that and along the length of the windows were more comfortable lounger chairs with ottomans. This is similar to the first class lounge, and also a great place to sit.

Further down in the lounge are some chairs with side tables, should you prefer to sit at one of those.

The business class lounge also has excellent views. However, I’d say the first class lounge has slightly better views, as it’s not as obstructed by gates.

Then the very back of the lounge had a business center with several iMacs.

The lounge’s showers and bathrooms are back near the entrance to the lounge, between the first & business class section.

The lounge has several shower rooms, each of which has a sink, toilet, and shower. The showers have both a rainforest showerhead and a handheld one, and toiletries are from Aesop.

Even the shared bathrooms are nice, and also have Aesop toiletries.

Cathay Pacific Business Class Lounge Heathrow bottom line

Cathay Pacific’s lounge at Heathrow is a winner. Both the first and business class sections of this lounge are fantastic, and I’d argue this is easily one of the best outstation lounges in the world. When it comes to the business class section you have beautiful decor with lots of different seating options, a great noodle bar, freshly made cappuccinos, and excellent shower rooms. I’m actually going to go so far and say that this is my second favorite lounge at London Heathrow, after the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse.  It’s impressive when you consider just how many of the best airport lounges in the world are at Heathrow.

Based on how far Cathay has fallen since 2018… I’d wager the Qantas lounge is better in 2022?

    Hi there,

If I am flying Finnair Business class out of Heathrow, can I use the Cathay Pacific lounge? What other OneWorld lounges can I access?

    Thanks!

    You say
"all oneworld business class and Sapphire members can access this lounge before any oneworld flight."
    Checking ... Can I access HRW CX J Lounge on a QF10 QF J ticket in December 2018 ?

    Are there power points anywhere?
Specifically at the lounger chairs with ottoman at both the first & business lounges

    Thanks

The email newsletter pop up is malfunctioning on iPad. It keeps getting stuck at the bottom of the page, and is hard to X out. Other than that, nice review.

Thanks Lucky, I note that you did not name the new and much hyped T3 Qantas lounge as better than the CX lounge - I agree. The white airy interior of the Qantas lounge is pleasant, and the a la carte menu is great in theory but poorly executed in reality - I got a rather dry, anaemic eggs Benedict with a tiny single of slice ham. Give me CX dan dan and wonton noodles anytime - even T3 Club Aspire had better a la carte food.

^ Same, I go to the business class section despite being Emerald

I actually prefer the Business portion of this lounge over the First portion

I totally agree on both the First and Business lounge of Cathay in London. They are outstanding. If you are in the private dining area (in First I have to admit) and enjoy a authentic asian breakfast instead of the standard british morning meal (hard to call it breakfast IMO) you feel almost confused by the british weather outside instead of a view to the mountains surrounding Hong Kong. Hands down one of the best lounges I have been to.

Thanks Lucky, this is useful. I am one of the clueless souls out there who is exec plat on AA but always use only the AA lounges in LHR (I have used the cathay ones in HKG). I am in London again soon and will try this.

Your pictures do not show that there are good desks to work on in these Cathay lounges. Are there?

In lounges I often appreciate a good desk with a power outlet more than food or drink, and I know you like to work too!

Looks great. I'll definitely give it a go next time I'm at T3.

Lucky, would you consider this better than the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse (since it's the "best lounge at Heathrow)?

@ Alvin -- You're absolutely right, I actually prefer the Clubhouse. Can't believe I forgot that! You always keep me honest, thanks.
