One of the reasons I hold onto both the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest® Business Card from American Express is because they help me requalify for Starwood status.
One of the perks of the cards is that they offer two elite qualifying stays and five elite qualifying nights towards status annually. Each of the cards offers that benefit, meaning that if you have both cards, you start the year with four elite qualifying stays and 10 elite qualifying nights.
Platinum status ordinarily requires 25 stays or 50 nights, meaning that you really only need 21 stays or 40 nights to qualify if you have both of these cards.

Per the terms, these elite credits should post by February 15 of a given year, though in practice they typically post sooner. Historically they’ve generally posted in January, usually by mid-January at the latest.
At least in the case of my account, it looks like the stay and night credits for both the SPG Personal Amex and SPG Business Amex have posted, giving me an extra four elite qualifying stays and 10 elite qualifying nights.
If you’ve been waiting for these credits to post, be sure to check your account and see if the same happened for you. They sometimes post these in batches, so it’s possible they haven’t yet posted for all accounts. If so, you have nothing to worry about — SPG has another month or so to get these posted.
Also keep in mind that if you don’t yet have either of these cards, you can still apply for the SPG Personal Amex and SPG Business Amex and receive the elite credits for this year. The benefits will also apply in subsequent years, at least as long as the SPG program remains around, which may not be that much longer. With Amex and Chase both issuing co-branded Marriott cards in the future, I’ll be curious to see what they offer in the form of helping cardmembers requalify for status.
Did your SPG Amex elite credits for 2018 also post?
