American Express operates several Centurion Lounges, which can be accessed by those with The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

As far as their U.S. locations go, as of now they have lounges in DallasHoustonLas VegasMiamiNew YorkSan Francisco, and Seattle, and they’ll be opening a lounge in Philadelphia in the coming months.

Amex Centurion Lounge DFW

Amex also has some Centurion Lounges internationally, though I haven’t found them to be as consistently good. For example, I’ve reviewed the Centurion Lounges in Mexico CitySao Paulo, and Sydney.

As I first wrote about in January, Amex announced that they would be opening a new 8,000 square foot Centurion Lounge In Hong Kong this year. This is the first international Centurion Lounge that they’re building from scratch (meaning that hopefully it’s better than some of their other international ones), and it will be located in Terminal 1.

Hong Kong International Airport

Amex is typically very secretive about when their lounges open. I’ve been carefully tracking when the Philadelphia and Hong Kong lounges will open, and every time I’ve asked I have been told that they have nothing to report yet. Typically they make an official announcement just a week or two before lounges actually open.

The Hong Kong Centurion Lounge was supposed to open in the third quarter, which ends in a few days. It looks like that’s not actually happening, though now we know when it will open.

Per a marketing email shared by FlyerTalk member forumpersona999, the Amex Centurion Lounge Hong Kong will be opening in October 2017. We don’t yet know whether that means a few days from now or four weeks from now.

The email also mentions what can be expected in terms of the food & drink selection:

  • Culinary Delights: Special a la carte menus designed for Centurion exclusively by Executive Chef Lau Yiu Fai from Michelin two-star Yan Toh Heen at InterContinental Hong Kong.
  • Wine & Dine: Full premium bar with signature cocktails created by mixologist Jim Meehan of PDT in New York.

I’ll be passing through Hong Kong in early November, so should hopefully be able to check it out by then. I’m excited to see what it’s like, but something tells me it can’t compete with Cathay Pacific’s incredible Pier First Class Lounge.

Are you excited to check out the new Centurion Lounge Hong Kong?

Thanks for the good news, Lucky. I've got an eight-hour layover there on Sunday, October 29th. I had planned to go to SkyCity Marriott for a shower and some sleep but I think I'll cancel and enjoy the new lounge instead. I'll be there from 1:40pm to 9:35pm if any readers are passing through that day.

Per TPG, the HKG lounge will open on Monday. Due to a last minute trip, I will be passing through on Wednesday. I tag you in some Instagram photos

@Lucky Can't wait to hear your review of the food. Yan Toh Heen is incredible so will be interesting to see how much of the quality translates to the Lounge.

Ivo, you are correct, will be there tomorrow to be shown around, some of us holders of the card in HK have received an invite , the CX Pier has been slipping every since they changed the food/beverage license away from the Peninsular Group

@ Ivo - if it is located at the former Virgin Club House (pretty big! and has been vacant since more than 2 years ago), it's gonna be on the 2nd floor, next to Plaza Premium Lounge, above the Armani store. The Plaza Premium Lounge will be competitive to the new Centurion Lounge because it's got a shower room and a sleep room aside from the regular noodle bar, salad bar, magazine area, etc.

I heard that the Centurion Lounge in HKG is located at the former Virgin Club House.

I will be passing through HKG on 9th October... if it opens that early, then I will pass along some photos

do biz class flights guarantee entry into this lounge?

    1. lucky OMAAT

@ danny -- The only way to access this lounge is through a credit card. There's no type of ticket as such that will get you in.

Do we know where it'll be in Terminal 1? Near Disney Store/McDonald's when you clear customs? Before the train somewhere else?

Apologies if I missed that detail.

Flying out of HKG on 10/6. If it is open I will stop in and get some pics :)

I'm flying out of PHL in a few weeks. Really hoping to catch at least a soft opening there.

I was in the pier a few months ago and that is certainly a photo from there. I actually sat at that specific bar.

I’m looking forward to it. I’ll fly CX in First in a few month, though that diesn’t grant me access to CX’s fantastic lounges (only the arrival lounge). My connecting flight is on SQ in Business, so Amex Lounge will be better than Star Alliance J lounge - at least, that’s what’s I am hoping for.

There's a soft opening on Friday!
A travel blogger in HK got an invitation for a sneak peek.

I suspect this may be more like the Sydney lounge than the US ones. The Sydney lounge was also built new in the era since Amex opened the US lounges, unlike the Latin America lounges which mostly predate the US ones by many years (though there is a fairly new Centurion lounge in EZE which has the same modern design as the US Centurion lounges but much worse food offerings). And the Sydney lounge I believe is operated by the same third party that also operates the SkyTeam lounge in Sydney, and since there is also a SkyTeam lounge in HKG they may be doing the same thing there.

Will be in HK early october, if it opens by then, will try to snap some pics.

Am going to HKG next week for work; returning October 4. Will be using the CX First lounge(s), but will try to report on whether the Centurion Lounge has opened by then!

  19. Supropal New Member

I have been trying to find out the exact opening date as well. The manager from the DFW lounge is the manager of the HKG lounge but all I get is the same October 2017 opening date.

  20. Hal Guest

Given that I almost only connect in HK on a one world carrier, I probably won't ever pick Centurion over CX F lounge

  21. Lisa Guest

I'll be in HK in December and it will be my first chance to check out a Centurian lounge . I am excited to check it out! I don't know if I will ever fly through airports in the US with Centurian lounges. My authorized users get way more use of them than I do.

I wish they would open one in the DC area !

  22. Jeff Guest

That's definitely the bar from The Pier. I hung out on that side for a few hours prior to my last flight home from HKG.

  23. Brad Guest

Wooo ill be in Hong Kong in November, but is it worth checking this out when i have access to CX F lounges?

    1. lucky OMAAT

@ Brad -- If you have time and are curious to check it out, you might as well. But it's definitely not going to be better than The Pier, if it's one or the other.

minor typo : YAN Toh Heen not YAH Toh Heen

@ henry LAX -- Fixed, thank you!

The image is not from CX first pier lounge in HKG

    1. lucky OMAAT

@ Guy Doron -- Hmmm? Most definitely was in my review of The Pier, so what am I missing?
