The savings do indeed seem to be 90% off the base fare, though keep in mind that Frontier has really low base fares, so in reality you’re not actually paying a tenth of what you’d otherwise pay.

For example, take a Tampa to Denver flight on September 23, where the “Non-Club Price” is $109 (you can join Frontier’s Discount Den Program for $50 per year).

Meanwhile with this sale, the price is knocked down to $41, which represents a $68 discount on the $75 base fare, before factoring in the $34 in taxes. So in the end you’re still paying over a third of the fare, but that’s just because the taxes and fees don’t change.

This is potentially a great deal, though do keep in mind that Frontier charges for everything, from seat assignments to carry-ons to food and drinks. Travis shared his experience flying with Frontier recently, and as he cautioned, one of the biggest downsides to low cost carriers is their lack of frequencies in markets, so when flights are canceled or delayed, you have very few options.

Does anyone plan on taking advantage of this Frontier fare sale?

  1. My husband and I have mastered Frontier flying. We fly to Vegas from Austin Texas twice a year. Round trip for two tickets, under $200 every time. We each pack our clothes very tightly in a medium sized back pack (free for both), I also place items in my purse. We do not pay for seating, (who wants to sit with their spouse, it’s a nice little break), and we drink water on the flight and eat our snacks that we placed so gently in our backpacks. All in all, it’s a great deal, especially when two can fly to Vegas for under $200. You would be surprised how much items you can pack in a back pack. I packed 4 outfits, two pair of shoes and makeup. We also wore our light jackets on us, versus packing them. Be creative and fly high on a low budget.

  2. Wanted to fly Orlando to SFO in January, but date not included in the sale. I instead used SAVE50 and only saved 50%. So came out to $70 for the one way tix.
