5 Reasons I Love The Ink Business Cash Card

Last week I wrote about the Ink Business Preferred℠ Credit Card, which is probably the single most well rounded business credit card out there. The card has a huge 80,000 point sign-up bonus (by my math the biggest bonus of any card), offers triple points in select categories, and also has generous purchase and travel protection. If I could only apply for one business card, that’s the one I’d get.

However, unfortunately I’m not eligible for the card due to the Chase 5/24 restriction, and instead I have the Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card, which I love as well. While I think either card is great, in this post I wanted to share five reasons I love this card so much:

No annual fee

The Ink Business Cash has no annual fee. Typically no annual fee cards don’t offer huge rewards, but this card is an exception, as I’ll explain below.

I’d argue that this is on of the two most compelling no annual fee business cards, along with The Blue Business℠ Plus Credit Card from American Express, which offers 2x Membership Rewards points on the first $50,000 spent each year.

A $300/30,000 point sign-up bonus

The Ink Business Cash has a sign-up bonus of $300 cash back (or 30,000 points — more on that later) after spending $3,000 within three months. For a no annual fee card, this is a solid sign-up bonus, and it’s higher than it used to be.

Huge 5x points bonus categories

The card offers 5x points on the first $25,000 of combined purchases per account anniversary year at office supply stores, and on internet, cable, and phone services. If nothing else, earning 5x points on your cell phone and cable bill is huge, in my opinion.

2x points in two valuable categories

On top of that, the card offers 2x points on the first $25,000 of combined purchases per account anniversary year at restaurants and gas stations. While these are categories that other cards also offer bonuses on, that’s pretty generous for a no annual fee.

Ultimate Rewards points earning potential

On the surface the Ink Business Cash is a cash back card, as the name suggests. So when I talk about “points” above, each point gets you one cent cash back. However, you can do much better than that if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® CardInk Business Preferred℠ Credit Card, and/or Chase Sapphire Reserve℠ Card.

If you have any of the above cards in addition to the Chase Freedom® CardChase Freedom Unlimited®, and/or Ink Business Cash℠ Credit Card, in addition to one of the cards earning Ultimate Rewards points, then those points can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio.

I value Ultimate Rewards points at 1.7 cents each, so to me that increases the value of the points earned on this card by 70%.

Getting approved for the card

The Ink Business Cash is subjected to Chase’s 5/24 rule, meaning that you won’t typically be approved for the card if you’ve opened more than five new card accounts in the past 24 months. This isn’t the easiest card to be approved for, and as a result I’d recommend getting this card sooner rather than later.

Do note that you can’t downgrade the Ink Business Preferred into the Ink Business Cash. Everyone has to decide for themselves which card they’d get more value out of. Many would even get value out of both cards, between the 5x points offered on the no annual fee Ink Cash, and the 3x points offered on the $95 annual fee Ink Preferred, in addition to the great cell phone coverage, etc.

Bottom line

I’m all for holding onto as many no annual fee cards for as long as possible, especially if they help you maximize your points. The Ink Cash earns valuable points that can be converted into Ultimate Rewards points in conjunction with other Chase cards. If you’re eligible for the card and don’t yet have it, I’d seriously consider applying. It’s a card I’ve had for years, and not one I see myself canceling anytime soon.

  1. @Ray. When you sign up for the card and meets its spend, you get the 30,000 pts shown on your acct. (which is the same as $300–if you decide to redeem it as cash. It’s just advertised as cash back–similar to the Freedom & Freedom Unlimited-both advertised as $150 cash back, but it shows 15,000 pts when you meet spend).

  3. I’m about as snarky a person as there is, but the next time you think about deriding Ben for the occasional blog post that includes one of his referral links, remember:
    1) No OMAAT content is hidden behind a paywall
    2) You’re not bombarded with pop-up and auto-playing video ads
    3) If you actually play the hobby, the advice shared by Ben and his team is bound to save you thousands of dollars/earn you thousands of points annually. Hell, just the other day his heads-up got me a $20 Starbucks gift card for $10.

    In exchange for the treasure-trove of information found here, all Ben is asking for are a few referral points which are invested right back into the site in the form of his flight/hotel reviews. Please don’t be an ingrate… Nobody is forcing you to visit OMAAT.

  4. It cracks me up how people willingly go to this blog, willingly click on an article, and then complain about the content. Lucky posts a lot of great information and shares it with us FOR FREE. Thanks to Lucky, I’m flying R/T to Tokyo in ANA 1st class for 120,000 Ultimate Rewards. If you don’t like him posting about credit cards every now and then – and BTW, everything he writes is completely accurate – then feel free to visit other sites. You won’t be missed.

  7. @BenFanNumberOne @RSB31 I love Ben’s blog (unlike certain people over here) and I have no problem with Ben having referral links. I have even applied for numerous credit cards using his links for all the good content he puts out.

    I just hate when he blatantly pushes referral links out for no other reason than financial gain, it’s like he’s practically begging for money. He clearly doesn’t need it : staying in $1K+ night hotel rooms, spending several thousands of dollars on Etihad Residence tickets, buying LifeMiles like there’s no tomorrow. I’m quite sure me makes much more than most of us just from advertising, consulting, award help and non-solicited referral links.

    OMAAT is probably the best BA blog in terms of site design, consistency, amount and quality, and until now, was one of the few that haven’t sold out, but I’m afraid he’s slowly transforming into TPG. A few bloggers have shared stories about credit card companies interfering with content and I don’t want that to happen to OMAAT. We still haven’t gotten an explanation about the United fiasco or why he left FlyerTalk all of a sudden.

    I know Ben works hard. I know it’s his passion and his life. I know he’s probably saved people thousands of dollars over the years… but there’s a heck of a lot more ways to fill your already deep pockets than begging for money.

  8. @Seamus Actually, I should have mentioned that this blog actually inspired me to look long and hard at the Ink Business as my next card. My Ultimate Rewards balance is getting low, and I’m not really looking to take on a new annual fee (especially with my CSR anniversary about to hit), so this could be a good option. So, while primarily intended as a way to promote his referral link, I actually gained some knowledge and inspiration from this post.

    In regards to “I’m quite sure me makes much more than most of us just from advertising, consulting, award help and non-solicited referral links.” … Sorry, but I don’t harbor a chip on my shoulder for Ben’s hard work and entrepreneurial spirit leading to a comfortable lifestyle. He deserves it, especially for all the information his provides us readers FOR FREE.

  10. I would hate to see Ben going the route of TPG too. TPG is the initial travel blog I followed but have to realized he’s been sold out-sadly. But I think in all fairness, Ben has the right to put up a post on his free blog site (which consistently gives thousands of readers valuable travel/pts/miles info), if he wants to garner some extra income. Heck, this IS his business after all. Actually, I just signed up for the Amex SPG business version earlier this week using Ben’s referral link even though I never read any of his blog post on this card. I did this simply because I value his blogs and wants to give him the referral incentive from Amex rather than just applying straight from Amex’s website. Hopefully we all will continue to benefit from Ben’s valuable, unbiased, and informative blogs. Happy Friday All!
