10K Bonus Hilton Points For Adding Amex Authorized User

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Please check out our advertiser policy for further details about the partners we work with. Thanks for your support!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who applied for the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express within the past few months. Well, if you didn’t add authorized users to the card, it looks like there’s a good promotion right now to earn bonus points. I can’t guarantee that this promotion will work for everyone, though I think it will work for many. I didn’t receive an email about the promotion, but it still works for me.

Select cardmembers can earn 10,000 bonus Hilton Honors points after adding an authorized user and having them spend $1,000 within three months. You can earn this bonus up to four times, for a total of up to 40,000 bonus points. There’s no fee to add authorized users, and authorized users have to be a minimum of 13 years old.

To see if you’re eligible, follow this link, and then you’ll be asked to log-in with your account and select the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express.

If you add an authorized user then they’re still eligible to apply for the card in the future; you can be both a primary cardmember and an authorized user. However, do keep in mind that even being an authorized user will count as an “account” towards the Chase 5/24 limit, so maybe that’s a consideration for some.

To crunch the numbers on this, I value Hilton Honors points at ~0.4 cents each. If you spent $1,000 on the card you’d ordinarily earn 3,000 points, plus the 10,000 points for adding an authorized user. That’s a total of 13,000 points, which I value at ~$52, meaning you’re getting a return of ~5.2% on spend. That’s really solid.

I certainly wouldn’t add authorized users if it will cause them to get near the 5/24 limit, but otherwise this is a good deal.

While I don’t have the card, it appears as if the no annual fee Hilton Amex has a similar offer. With that card you can get 5,000 bonus points after adding an authorized user and having them spend $500.

Are you eligible for this 10K bonus offer, and if so, do you plan on taking advantage of it?

  1. It says that social security # is optional so I submitted without it. Will I still get the 10k points? Seems like it’s not a real authorized user if I didn’t input ask.

  2. I clicked on the link to add additional card user, and here is the message I got:

“We are sorry we cannot process your application for an Additional Card online at this time. Please call the number on the back of your Card and a member of our Customer Care Team can complete your Additional Card application by phone.”

  3. I got the same message:

We are sorry we cannot process your application for an Additional Card online at this time. Please call the number on the back of your Card and a member of our Customer Care Team can complete your Additional Card application by phone.”

  4. Why are you saying that adding an authorized user to an AMEX HHonors card will affect applying for Chase cards under Chase 5/24? Chase and AMEX are not related, what am I missing?

  5. I got this similar offer on my personal Amex Platinum. Add up to 4 AU, and spend $500 on each card for bonus MR. Clicked on it, it gave me the same error message at previous poster. Have to call…
