Earn Up To 1,000 Bonus Alaska Miles With Shopping Portal Bonus

Online shopping portals can be a great way to pick up additional miles & points for purchases you’d make anyway. Just for following a specific link you can earn bonus points in addition to the ones you’d earn anyway for credit card spend. The number of bonus miles you earn per dollar spent varies greatly by retailer, though in addition to those variable bonuses, there are often promotions that are available on all purchases.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about the shopping portal bonuses being offered by American and United, for purchases through August 18, 2017. Specifically, with American AAdvantage:

  • Spend $150, earn 500 bonus miles
  • Spend $300, earn 1,000 bonus miles
  • Spend $500, earn 2,000 bonus miles

Meanwhile with United MileagePlus:

  • Spend $150, earn 500 bonus miles
  • Spend $300, earn 1,000 bonus miles
  • Spend $600, earn 3,000 bonus miles

For those who prefer to earn Alaska miles, Alaska is joining the fun, and just launched a similar portal bonus.

Up to 1,000 bonus Alaska Mileage Plan miles

Through August 18, 2017, you can earn up to 1,000 bonus Alaska miles for purchases made through the Mileage Plan shopping portal. Specifically, the promotion works as follows:

  • Spend $125, earn 300 bonus miles
  • Spend $350, earn 1,000 bonus miles

The bonus is based on your cumulative spend over the promotion period, and bonus miles should post 8-10 weeks after the promotion ends. There’s no registration required to take advantage of this deal.

On a per mile basis I value Mileage Plan miles more than AAdvantage or MileagePlus miles, so this is a solid offer. However, if you have a lot of purchases coming up, you can take advantage of all of these promotions, as they’re not mutually exclusive.

Bottom line

These bonuses are in addition to whatever miles you’d earn through the shopping portal anyway, so the above isn’t the extent of the bonus miles you’d be earning. I value Alaska miles at ~1.8 cents each, so to me this is like an additional return of ~$18 on $350 of spend, not accounting for the miles you’d usually earn. When you consider the “base” miles you’d earn through the shopping portal, plus that many items have fixed pricing no matter where you buy them, that’s a great deal.

Do you plan on taking advantage of the Alaska, American, or United shopping portal bonuses?

  1. Hey Ben,
Alaska is also currently offering a promo where you can get 1000 miles for using each of their partners – Dining, Shopping, and their survey partner. It may be stackable with this promo.
