Amex Offers is one of the best unique perks of having American Express cards. Both their credit and charge cards are eligible for these offers, which are targeted by different retailers. The “offers” can come in the form of cash back or Membership Rewards points. Some offers are widely available, while some are targeted to a limited number of cards.
Well, this morning I was looking through my new Amex Offers and came across this:
Just like the Air France offer earlier this year, American Express will give you 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points if you spend at least $1,000 in one transaction with airberlin by September 4, 2017. This offer was available on all my personal Amex cards. Since I don’t have The Platinum Card® from American Express, which earns 5x points per dollar spent with airlines, I added the offer to my Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, which is the next best option at 3x points per dollar.
Ben values Membership Rewards Points at ~1.7 cents a piece, making this offer worth at least $340. That’s a 34% return on $1,000 of spend! Per the conditions, add-on purchases such as seat upgrades, baggage fees, and pet carrier fees will even be included if purchased during flight booking.
So, is it worth going out of your way to take advantage of this offer? While you definitely shouldn’t take a trip just for the purpose of the extra miles, if you’re planning a trip to Europe anyway, airberlin might be worth considering for the extra return. They offer a solid product as far as transatlantic flights go.
This is just one of many offers available to Amex card holders. While we rarely see any that are more generous than this, it’s great that American Express gives back. Earning 20,000 points + 3,000 points for $1,000 spend on my Premier Rewards Gold Card is a fantastic return.
Are your cards eligible for this offer? Will you try to take advantage of it?
