LoyaltyLobby reports the leaked details of Marriott’s next global promotion, which will be valid for stays between May 27 and September 4, 2017, and for which registration will become available as of May 15, 2017. The details of the new promotion are as follows:
Earning dates for this offer are from May 27, 2017 to September 4, 2017. If you enroll in this promotion, you will earn 2,000 bonus points for each paid stay, beginning with your second paid stay during the promotional period.
You may also earn an additional 2,000 bonus points by staying at different Marriott Rewards participating hotel brands. You will receive an additional 2,000 bonus points for each different brand that you stay in during the earning dates of the promotion, starting with the second brand.
So you’ll earn 2,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points for each paid stay, starting with your second stay, plus an additional 2,000 bonus points for each new hotel brand you stay at, starting with your second brand. As of now it isn’t possible to credit Starwood stays to Marriott, meaning that as of now you’re limited to Marriott’s 18 brands.
I value Marriott Rewards points at ~0.8 cents each, so to me that’s like a return of $16 per stay, plus an additional $16 return for each brand you stay at. Marriott generally doesn’t have the best promotions, so I actually consider this to be solid, since many members should be earning 4,000 bonus points per stay, at least when staying at a new brand.
Marriott’s last global promotion was the first one that they offered since taking over Starwood, and they even offered a parallel promotion for SPG members. The promotion offered double points for your first three stays, which was pretty good for someone who occasionally stays at Marriotts, but if you’re a frequent guest, you max that out pretty quickly.
It’ll be interesting to see if Starwood runs a parallel promotion here as well. Given that Starpoints convert into Marriott Rewards points at a 1:3 ratio, I suppose Starwood would be offering 667 Starpoints per night, which doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. 😉
I’ll post again once registration for the Marriott promotion opens, and also if I learn more details about what Starwood will offer. However, this Marriott promotion is certainly better than what they’ve otherwise been offering lately.
What do you make of Marriott’s next rumored global promotion?
