Hilton has been doing a fantastic job lately with constantly offering promotions to members. Between February 1 and April 30, 2017, Hilton is offering their “2K Every Day” promotion, through which you can earn 2,000 bonus points per night for all stays. I appreciate just how “no strings attached” the promotion is, as it’s valid for stays at all brands starting with the first stay, and there’s no limit to how many bonus points you can earn.

Well, Hilton has just shared with me the details of their next promotion, which I think a lot of people will like. Between May 1 and August 31, 2017, Hilton will be offering their “Go More Get More” promotion. Through this promotion, Honors members can earn double points on all eligible stays, while Diamond members will earn triple points on all eligible stays.

Hilton has also shared that:

  • The bonus amount is based on a member’s tier at the time of checkout
  • Booking and stay window is: May 1, 2017 – August 31, 2017
  • All hotels around the world are participating in this offer

Through this promotion you can earn quite some return on your Hilton spend. For example, you can earn:

  • 10 base points per dollar spent
  • 5 additional points per dollar spent for choosing Points & Points
  • 10-20 bonus points per dollar spent through the “Go More Get More” promotion, depending on whether you’re a Diamond member or not
  • 2.5 bonus points per dollar spent if a Gold member, or 5 bonus points per dollar spent if a Diamond member
  • 12 points per dollar spent on the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express

A Diamond member paying with the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express would be earning 52 Honors points per dollar spent, which is fantastic. Meanwhile a Gold member paying with the same card would be earning 39.5 Honors points per dollar spent.

This is on top of the 500 bonus points per app booking that you can earn through the end of 2017.

Furthermore, you can earn an additional 500 bonus points per booking when you reserve and pay with either the Hilton Honors™ Surpass® Card from American Express or Hilton Honors™ Card from American Express.

Bottom line

There’s no denying that Hilton offers a fantastic return on spend for hotel stays. I value Honors points at ~0.4 cents each, so if you’re earning a return of 52 points per dollar spent, that’s the equivalent of a return of over 20% on Hilton spend, which is excellent. That doesn’t even account for the 1,000 bonus points you can earn per stay by booking through the app and paying with an Amex card.

What do you make of Hilton’s upcoming global promotion?

  1. Wait, so to confirm, if I already made a booking for a stay during this promotion period, that stay won’t qualify for this promotion unless I cancel and rebook? That’s pretty crappy. I already have some nonrefundable rates booked during this promotion period and some refundable rates that are clearly cheaper when I booked it than what it is now…

  2. I did not get the 2k points per night for the previous promo, and when I emailed Hilton, they replied that it’s because I booked a non-qualifying rate. As a result, no points for incidentals charged to the room and no bonus. So there ARE strings attached to those promos.

  3. @ Andy — It looks like I may have misunderstood the promo. Previously booked stays should qualify, based on the terms & conditions.

  4. Yeah, the booking window requirement is b.s. And I type this from my room at a Hilton. I’m very loyal to the Hilton family of hotels but that policy rubs me the wrong way.

  5. @ Greg — Fortunately it seems I may have misinterpreted this. They told me the booking and stay window, but the terms state nothing about when the stay has to be booked, which is good news.

  6. Well this just made a difficult decision much easier for me. I will have close to 150 nights this year to spread around.

I am going to hit my 30th Hilton stay Diamond requalification shortly and I am already requalified IHG spire (those 5k bonus point packages are great towards tier points). I’ve been struggling with my decision on Hyatt and the new program as a multi year diamond. If I dedicate myself all year I could hit 60 nights but now I will just pass completely and load up even more on Hilton points all summer.

Hyatt has been great to me and I love award stays internationally with great lounges. However I am going to move on unless they make changes again for the better. 250,000 points, suite upgrades and free certificates will get used to by end of year.

  7. @lucky – Mommy P has gotten word that pooling is available tomorrow… can you confirm? I thought i read on FT that they are pushing back the “april” timeframe…

  8. Ahhhh Hilton. This is why you’re undervalued. Because your hotels might cost a bunch of points, but I can reliably earn 6000 when spending ~$120

  9. I have Hilton AMEX card on my profile, but i always change it at checkin to whatever card i am trying to meet the min spend on. I still get the 500 bonus points each time…

  10. Hi Lucky, you say that ‘all hotels around the world’ are participating, but when I registered and looked at the terms and conditions, I read: “Offer valid May 1, 2017, through August 31, 2017 (“Promotion Period”) at any hotel or resort within the Hilton Portfolio excluding Hampton by Hilton Hotels in Mainland China. ” That’s a minor exclusion, but worth mentioning especially since China is the most populous country in the world….

  11. If I book a stay via Ultimate Rewards website using points (don’t judge me!!!) will I be eligible to earn base points and also these bonus promo points?

  12. Are there any routes to getting instant Hilton Silver Status anymore, now the HP route has expired?

  13. @Matt

Why don’t you just go for Hilton Gold in any of the really easy ways? Or are you out of the US and thus restricted in terms of CC access?

  14. Data Point: Hilton.com Rep just confirmed stays booked prior to May 1 for stays between promotional period May 1 – August 31 ARE ELIGIBLE for the bonus! 🙂

  15. AWESOME news! Staying at the following hotels during my Trip Around the World in July:
    – Hilton Abu Dhabi
    – Conrad Maldives
    – Hilton Sydney
    – Queenstown DoubleTree
    – Conrad Tokyo

Will be using my Citi Hilton Reserve Card for 10X points on Hilton spend.

Just registered. Thanks for the tip Lucky! Never would have known this if it wasn’t for this post!

  16. Though much maligned by “travel gurus”, Hilton Honors yet again shows why it’s been consistently and hands-down the most rewarding hotel loyalty program in recent memory, the usual suspects’ constant disparagement notwithstanding….

Cheers from my Rainbow Corner Ocean Front premium room upgrade at Hilton Hawaiian Village!

  17. @Lucky. I am huge fan of yours. Love your insight. Regarding this promotion, oh oh!!! I already have booked several stays with Hilton as a diamond member for stays in May and June. I also plan on booking more shortly. Would my previous bookings made in March and April be considered valid for triple points if I register for this promotion next week?? Triple points is HUGE!

  18. “1,000 bonus points you can earn per stay by booking through the app and paying with an Amex card.” All amex card get that?

  19. @ Vini — I believe it’s only supposed to be the Hilton Amex cards technically, but in practice any Amex will work. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

  20. @Lucky — What would you have picked: a corner premium room with a nearly 180 degrees ocean front view or a junior suite on the resort or city side? Inquiring minds wanna know

  21. Hey Lucky,
I can see how pairing this offer with a Hilton CC makes it an amazing deal. Even better perhaps than their 2k per stay promo. But you only mentioned co branded Hilton/AmEx cards. Will I get those same point multiplayers with the Citi/Hilton Cards?
    Cheers,
    JB

  22. Not really triple points, its double. Look at this crazy chat string i just had with them.

    Ready to chat…
    3:31 pm.
    Elizabeth,
Thank you for visiting the Hilton website. My name is Elizabeth, how may I assist you today?
    .
    You
,i signed up for triple point promotion starting may 1st and it looks like i am only getting double points. Can you check into that?
    .
    Elizabeth,
Thank you for being an Honors member. I see that you are logged into your Honors account online, may I confirm that I’m speaking with Carl?
    .
    You
    ,yes
    .
    Elizabeth,
    Thank you for confriming.
    .
    *confirming.
    .
Please bear with me while I am checking.
    .
    You
    ,thx
    3:36 pm.
    Elizabeth,
Thank you for patiently waiting. Upon checking, the promotion has been applied to your stays accordingly. 2017 HH2 Get More Promotion Triple Points for Diamond member means that you will receive a bonus equal to twice the total number of base points.
    .
For your stay at Hilton Richmond Downtown, you have earned a total of 7,760 base points so you got a total of 15,520 bonus points.
    .
    Are you still there?
    3:42 pm.
    You
    ,sorry yes
    .
    Elizabeth,
Would there be anything else/questions that I can assist you with?
    .
    You
,so what does the triple points mean
    .
    ,really means double points?
    .
    Elizabeth,
Yes, and for the Double Points for other tier status means that they will receive a bonus equal to the total number of base points earned during the stay.
    .
    You
,shuoldnt it be triple points for diamond status then?
    .
,Registered Hilton Honors members will earn Double Points per stay during the Promotion Period, or Triple Points per stay during the promotion period as a Diamond member. The Double Points or Triple Points bonus will be based on tier at time of checkout.
    3:48 pm.
    Elizabeth,
I apologize for the confusion, but the 2017 HH2 Get More Promotion Triple Points for Diamond member, means that you will receive a bonus equal to twice the total number of base points.
    .
Like for example the previous promotion 2016 HH3 DOUBLE POINTS OFFER, it just double the base points (bonus points is equal to base points earned).
    .
    You
,I get that, but it was called a double points offer, not triple
    .
    Elizabeth,
For this new promotion, you’ll get 2x the base points earned.
    .
    You
    ,but is called triple points?
    3:55 pm.
    Elizabeth,
Yes, it is called Triple points because it is 1x Base points + 2x Base points.
    .
    You
,so that math doesnt work 1x base point + 2x base points would be triple. ex. 1000 base points + 2x 1000 would be 3000 points or triple
    .
    Elizabeth,
The base points is already counted on the triple points.
    .
    You
,can you have someone call me? I have to hear this for myself
    .
    Elizabeth,
One moment. Please stay online while I connect you to our Guest Assistance to further explain the details.
    4:00 pm.

    .
    You
    ,thanks
    4:06 pm.
    Veronica,
I read the information above which was correct and I see that you are not understanding the break down as well.
    .
The points were added to the account already
    .
    You
,right buts a double point offer not triple
    .
    ,correct
    .
    Veronica,
Correct but the way the points are posted are considered as 3x but will post as 2x
    .
you are you still receiving the 3x offer
    .
    You
,i know, but does that make any sense? call it a triple offer but only get double points?
    4:12 pm.
,i know you probably cant answer that, but it doesnt look good.
    .
    ,thanks for your help

  23. In my opinion most travel blogs unfairly give Hilton a bad rap because of their point valuation. That’s bad advice though because it doesn’t take into account how easy it is to collect their points compared to other programs, not to mention their above average mid-tier status benefits.

I have an upcoming 5 night trip to New Orleans and I figured out the points I will earn:

    $226 rate per night
    5 nights
    $1,130 total room rate
    $194 taxes
$200 estimated room charges (wild guess)
    $1,524 Total invoice amount

    13300 base points
    6650 points & points
    3325 gold status
18285 credit card points – AMEX Surpass
    13300 double points promo
    500 book via app
500 book online with amex surpass
    55860 Total points

Taxes are not included in any of the points amounts except the credit card spend.

I may add a 6th night which would increase the total to 64787 points.

That’s enough for 1 free night in Aruba in September.

You can’t earn that amount of value from any other program!
