For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.

To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.

At the moment there’s a targeted Amex Offer for 3,500 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend $250+ at a Hilton Hotels & Resorts or Curio Collection properties. The offer is valid for stays at participating properties through April 15, 2017. The promotion is only valid for stays at U.S. properties, and isn’t valid at any Hilton family brands other than Hilton or Curio.

The terms say that you have to book directly through a Hilton channel to qualify, and pre-paid rates where the charge is processed prior to your stay don’t qualify. However, in practice it remains to be seen how much that’s enforced. I suspect as long as you settle the amount on your folio at check-out, you’ll be fine.

As is the case with most Amex Offers, this promotion is targeted, though it seems to be pretty widely targeted. For my own account, The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American ExpressPremier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, and The Platinum Card® from American Express seem to be targeted for this offer.

I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, so that’s a return of ~$60 on a $250 purchase, which his a roughly 24% return on $250 of spend. That’s a very nice offer, especially since it’s in addition to the points you’d usually earn for your stays.

Keep in mind that if you book a stay costing significantly more than $250, you can always ask them to charge multiple credit cards at check-out, so you put $250 on an Amex card, and then the residual on another card that offers bonus points on your hotel stay, like the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card.

Lastly, keep in mind that Amex has a similar offer at the moment for Marriott hotels, though that expires at the end of February, so you’ll want to take advantage of that this month.

  1. Do I have to spend $250 for one stay?
It would be nice for my trip in April if I could split this into 2 stays.
