IHG Rewards Club’s PointBreaks is traditionally one of the best promotions in the hotel industry. Through this promotion, select hotels are available for just 5,000 points per night. Since IHG Rewards Club points can be purchased for as little as 0.575 cents per point, that’s like booking stays at certain hotels for an incredible ~$29 per night.

I’ve just been informed that IHG Rewards Club will be releasing the full list of new PointBreaks hotels tomorrow (Friday, January 27) at 12PM EST. At that point the new PointBreaks list can be found here, which will be valid for bookings and stays between January 30 and April 30, 2017 (though the better hotels tend to sell out pretty quickly).

They’ve provided a sampling of some of the 100+ hotels that will be on the list, including the following:

InterContinental-Santa-Domingo
The InterContinental Santa Domingo will be on the newest PointBreaks list

Ultimately I find that PointBreaks can be a great deal if you were planning on traveling somewhere anyway, though for the most part the hotel selection isn’t as amazing as it was when the promotion was first offered a few years back.

Still, at only 5,000 points per night, these hotel stays really are a steal.

Keep in mind that if you have the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card, you get a 10% refund on points redemptions, for a refund of up to 100,000 points per year. That lowers the cost per award night for those with the card to 4,500 points, which is even better.

Arguably there are even better benefits to the card, including Platinum status for as long as you have the card, plus an annual free night certificate, valid at any IHG property in the world.

  1. You know what Benjamin I talked that to dirty old bastard Gil Garcetti and all he had to offer me was tidbits about your tryst or relationship with him and it was just utterly beyond words. This is a truly despicable happenstance and I applaud you for taking it like a champ.

  2. If you do a 1 night stay on a PointsBreak and you have the IHG credit card, you get 500 points back as a check in bonus (for being Platinum which is a benefit of the card) and another 500 points back as the 10% refund. The net cost is thus only 4000 points for the night.

  3. I thought “PointsBreak” was last month, when they broke the value of IHG points by about one thirds.

  4. Who’s Gil? Is this like the mystery of “What is Mommypoints Summer Hull’s oldest daughter’s name? We all know now it is 7 year old Cate.

  5. Been trying to book since early this morning but it seems the previous list is still in effect and no one at IHG seems to know anything about the new list. Does anyone know what time it will be live today?

  6. While waiting (still) for these to open up, I read a great article on how badly these are handled – inconsistency in the release of the lists, inconsistency in the opening of the bookings, hotels being included/advertised when they don’t want to be, etc.

    Funny.
