Update: This offer for The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express is expired. Learn more about the best available offer here.

For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings and bonus offers. In many cases the offers can be huge, and more than offset the annual fee on a card.

To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for. These offers come in different forms, including discounts and even in some cases bonus points.

At the moment there’s a targeted Amex Offer for 3,000 bonus Membership Rewards points when you spend $200+ at a Marriott hotel. The offer is valid for stays at participating Marriott properties through February 28, 2017. The promotion is for US stays at Marriott, AC Hotels by Marriott, Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Inn, Residence Inn, SpringHill Suites, TownePlace Suites, EDITION Hotels, JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Delta, Gaylord Hotels, and Moxy. So it’s great how many brands are included.

Furthermore, you can take advantage of this offer twice, to earn up to 6,000 Membership Rewards points. That means you need to spend at least $200 per transaction to trigger the bonus each time.

As is the case with most Amex Offers, this promotion is targeted, though it seems to be pretty widely targeted. For my own account, The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American ExpressPremier Rewards Gold Card from American ExpressThe Platinum Card® from American Express, and The Enhanced Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN seem to be targeted for this offer.

I value Membership Rewards points at ~1.7 cents each, so to me this is the equivalent of a 17% return on spend in increments of $200 at Marriott properties. That’s a very nice offer, especially since it’s in addition to the points you’d usually earn for your stays.

Comments

  1. Got the offer on two cards, but no dice – due to restrictions of it being valid at Marriott US properties only & NOT valid for purchasing gift cards.

  2. have a 4 night regular-Marriott stay coming up. would they be agreeable to put $200 (or, 1 night, if that’s easier for them) on my Amex, and the balance on my CSR? would that introduce any sort of trouble in terms of getting proper Marriott points/night credits?

  3. Has anyone ever had any luck getting the bonus points to post if using the offer in Canada? I know it says US only, but wondering if using it for hotel in Canada would work, kind of like getting the airline credit for the AMEX Platinum via buying gift cards.

  4. I also have an offer for 2,000 MR points on a $100 Courtyard by Marriott purchase. Does anyone know if I spend over $200 at Courtyard if I’d get both the 3,000 and 2,000 rewards?

  5. @Chris

I recall successfully double dipping on a hotel promotion like that with Amex at some point, but I can’t remember the specific hotel group or offer terms. My thought is you’d probably be successful with that.

  6. Does anybody know if this would apply to bookings made before this transaction but for the stay that will happen after it? I booked a Courtyard stay, and they authorized my card for the amount, to take advantage of the other promotion last week but won’t end up staying until next week. Not counting on it, but it’d be even sweeter!

  7. @Steven – For the recent Courtyard offer, I put down my CSR at check-in and when I checked out I asked them to put $205 on Amex and the balance on the CSR. The hotel front desk staff didn’t bat an eye and there were no issues with Marriott stay credits/points or credit card. I can’t imagine that this offer would be any different. FWIW, I think that a set amount would be easier to for the front desk to process than having to figure out 1 night’s charge + taxes + fees.

  8. I’m staying at the Sedona Courtyard Marriott later this week (purchased through Hotels.com on my Amex.) Do/Should I have to contact Marriott or Amex to receive the points?

  9. I have this Amex Marriott promotion on two cards — the Gold and Everyday Preferred, and I enrolled both cards. Does anyone know if I can get 2 x 3000 bonus miles from *each* of them for a total of 12000 MR points? Or is it a 6000 maximum per Membership Rewards account? Thanks!

  10. @ Scott T I think that the terms and conditions specify that the promotion is only valid when booking directly with Marriott — “Reservations must be made online at Marriott.com, by using the Marriott Mobile App or via phone to Marriott Worldwide Reservations, 1-888-236-2427” so a booking through Hotels.com won’t qualify.

  11. @Chris

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in NYC end of August and was successfully credited Hilton 3,000 points offer plus $35 Off Garden Inn offer on one night.

  12. @Ben, you should received max 6000 MR points per card.

If you purchase gift card at the hotel, that should trigger the offer as well.

  13. Anyone know if you book two separate rooms for the same day online at marriott.com that it would trigger this?

  14. Bought a $200 Marriott gift card at a Courtyard this morning and immediately got 2 emails from AMEX saying “congratulations you’ve used your AMEX offer”. Presumably this was onr email form each offer (Marriott and Courtyard) loaded to my AMEX. The charge will pend for a few days naturally but it looks like it triggered both offers. If all goes well, 5000 MRs will be coming my way.

  15. This never posted to my account after staying at Marriott Courtyard at World Trade Center, amex reps saying this property isn’t eligible.
