For 12 days in December, JetBlue is offering what they’re calling “a December to Adventure” promotion. Basically every day at 1PM ET they have a special deal that’s valid just that day.
So far most of the deals have come in the form of discounted flights, like $20 domestic fares, $54 fares to Cuba, $50 international fares, etc. While those are great, JetBlue has sales all the time, and I didn’t find any of them to necessarily be worth writing about.
However, today JetBlue has a promotion that points addicts will like.
JetBlue is offering 4x points when you register and book a JetBlue ticket by 11:59PM ET tonight, for travel through February 28, 2017. Previously booked travel doesn’t qualify, and you have to travel during the promotion period. Bonus points should post to your account 4-6 weeks after the end of the promotion, and there are no blackout dates during the promotion period.
TrueBlue members ordinarily earn three points per dollar spent, plus an additional three points per dollar if booking through JetBlue’s website. Through this promotion you’d receive an additional nine TrueBlue points per dollar spent. That means:
- Travel booked directly through JetBlue earns 15 points per dollar spent
- If you’re a Mosaic member you earn an additional three points per dollar spent, for a total of up to 18 points per dollar spent
- This doesn’t include points earned through credit card spend, so you could earn 5x points for airfare spend on The Platinum Card® from American Express, or 6x points for airfare spend on JetBlue Plus Card
In other words, if you made a purchase through JetBlue’s website as a Mosaic member and paid with JetBlue Plus Card you’d earn 24 points per dollar spent. For having the card you also get a 10% refund on redeemed points, which really adds another ~2.4 points to the real “value” you’re getting.
JetBlue points can typically be redeemed for ~1.5 cents each towards the cost of an airline ticket. So as a non-elite paying with JetBlue’s co-branded credit card, you’re looking at a return of ~35%.
While I wouldn’t irrationally book a ticket on JetBlue to take advantage of this offer, I’d also certainly firm up any travel plans you may have if the price is right.
For example, I love JetBlue Mint, so I’m tempted to book my next Mint ticket today so that I can earn 21 points per dollar spent on the ticket. Given that Mint isn’t typically discounted beyond the already great pricing, this seems like the best way to take advantage of that. Given the way I approach points, this would be the equivalent of a ~35% discount on the ticket cost.
Anyone planning on booking a JetBlue ticket today to take advantage of this promotion?
