Everything You Need To Know About Redeeming Ritz-Carlton Complimentary Nights

The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Credit Card has a sign-up bonus of three complimentary nights at a Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton property after completing minimum spend. That bonus is potentially worth the equivalent of 180,000 points, given that Tier 4 properties go for 60,000 points per night.

On top of that, the card has a lot of other great benefits, including a $300 annual travel credit, Ritz-Carlton Gold status (which is also valuable at Marriott properties), a $100 domestic companion airfare benefit, three Ritz-Carlton club upgrades per year, etc. Also keep in mind that this card isn’t subjected to Chase’s “5/24 rule,” so is generally easier to be approved for than many other Chase cards.

In this post I wanted to talk about the actual process of earning and redeeming the three complimentary nights offered with the card, in the form of an FAQ:

How soon do you get the complimentary nights from the Ritz-Carlton Card?

Generally your three complimentary nights should post to your Ritz-Cartlon Rewards account once the statement where you complete your minimum spend closes. It could take an extra statement, but generally it won’t.

How will I know if I’ve earned my complimentary nights?

The three complimentary nights will show up in your Ritz-Carlton Rewards account. When you log into your account, you should see that it says you have unused certificates. When you click on that you’ll see them listed.

How long are the Ritz-Carlton Card complimentary nights valid for?

The Ritz-Carlton complimentary night certificates are valid for a year. The expiration date is listed in the account, and you need to redeem them for a stay by that date, and not just confirm your booking by then.

These certificates can either be redeemed together or separately — you could use them for one stay of three nights, three stays of one night, or one stay of two nights and one stay of one night.

At what hotels can I redeem my Ritz-Carlton complimentary nights?

The complimentary nights earned on the card can be redeemed at any Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton property. Even though EDITION hotels are part of the Ritz-Carlton Rewards program, you can’t redeem your certificates at those properties.

See this post for a full list of Ritz-Carlton properties by tier.

How do I redeem my Ritz-Carlton complimentary nights?

You can redeem them directly online, and it’s an easy process. Once you’ve figured out which property you want to redeem your certificates at, log into your Ritz-Carlton Rewards account and then search for the dates you’re looking at. Check the box that says “Use Points.”

Let’s say we’re trying to book the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua. On the results page you’ll see that it lists the cash rate or the points rate. This is a Tier 4 property, meaning it would ordinarily cost 60,000 points per night, so the figure of 180,000 points per stay sounds correct.

Click the “View Rates” button, and you’ll be brought to a page that lets you select the points redemption option.

On the next page you’ll see a yellow box that indicates that you have unused e-certificates. You’ll have the option of “attaching” those, which means they’ll be used for the stay in lieu of points.

Then just enter your credit card information, and you’ll see that it’s using your e-certificates as the form of payment.

There’s no need to settle the actual folio with the Ritz-Carlton Card. You can use any other card you’d like, including the Citi Prestige® Card (which offers triple points on hotel spend), Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express (which offers double points on Ritz-Carlton spend), etc.

Bottom line

Redeeming the three complimentary nights that come with The Ritz-Carlton Rewards® Credit Card is really easy. They’re valid for a year, and as long as there’s points availability you can redeem them at any Tier 1-4 Ritz-Carlton property (which includes a vast majority of their hotels).

This can potentially get you 180,000 points worth of value, or cover hotels that would be $700+ per night.

Given all the other benefits offered by this card, it’s an absolute no brainer, in my opinion.

  1. Are you sure that the certificates can be used at any non-EDITION Ritz-Carlton hotels? What about hotels that do not participate in the Ritz-Carlton Rewards Program, like Waikiki Beach or Vail?

  2. @ Mickey D — It has to be a Tier 1-4 property, so if it doesn’t participate in the program then you couldn’t.

  3. Only tangentially related to the article: the $300 in travel credit is a bit deceiving. Where other programs (Citi Prestige) count air travel, change fees, and anything as creditable, Ritz really polices your spend. You can’t even buy gift cards anymore (the long-standing workaround.)

  4. Thanks Ben for this really helpful post! Do you know if gold elite status applies to the complementary nights (e.g., space available upgrade, late check-out, etc.)?

    Thanks!

  5. Mite the minimum spend in the first statement and mine arrived only one day after statement close.

Typing this over the Bering Sea on a JAL flight with absolutely amazing Wi Fi.

  6. One big tip here is if you know which Ritz you want to stay at prior to receiving your free nights the website lets you book the rooms without having the points on hand and you can call to attach the e-certificates later! This was huge for us booking at Kapalua as those award rooms fill up fast!

  7. Can I use this along with citi prestige?
Book 4 nights through prestige and then call Marriott to apply the free night certificates.

  8. Is it possible to upgrade the certificate to use in Tier 5 properties by paying 10000 extra points?
