For those of you not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program available through most Amex cards, where different cards are eligible for different savings or bonus offers. These Amex Offers in many cases help offset the annual fees on my cards. To view Amex Offers, go to the bottom of the account summary page of any American Express card, where you’ll see all the offers you’re eligible for.
At the moment there’s a targeted Amex Offers promotion for earning 3x Membership Rewards points for purchases made with Amazon through December 31, 2016. You’ll want to check if your card is eligible, because registration is limited.
This promotion only works on Membership Rewards cards, and on top of that is targeted, though a lot of people seem to be eligible. In my case, the offer is showing up on The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express, The Platinum Card® from American Express, and the Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express.
If you are targeted for this offer, your best bet for maximizing points is the Amex EveryDay Preferred Card, since it offers a 50% points bonus when you make at least 30 purchases per billing cycle. That means you’d be earning a total of 3.5x Membership Rewards points per dollar spent (the 50% points bonus wouldn’t count for the bonus points through this promotion, since they only post after the fact).
I should mention that many people can earn 5x points at Amazon through gift cards, so this won’t be for everyone. However, you do get more purchase protection when using an American Express card, so many will find it worthwhile to forgo those points for much better protection on your purchase.
Were you targeted to earn two additional Membership Rewards points per dollar spent with Amazon?
