I’ve written extensively about American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, which is a program that adds significant value to stays at many upscale hotels.
FHR is available to those with The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN, and is a really useful perk. If you have access to this benefit you can book either by phone using the Platinum Concierge, through a travel advisor, or directly online.
As of now there are over 900 hotels participating in Fine Hotels & Resorts, and by booking through the program you receive:
- Daily breakfast for two people
- Room upgrade upon arrival, when available
- A unique property amenity (usually a $100 property credit, free massage, car transfer, etc.)
- Guaranteed 4PM check-out
- Noon check-in, subject to availability
- Complimentary in-room wifi (exclusions apply)
Those are some incredible perks, especially given that you typically pay the same price the hotel is charging directly for a flexible rate. Fine Hotels & Resorts is very similar to Virtuoso (which you don’t need an Amex card to use). There’s a lot of overlap between the benefits and hotels offered by both programs, though the exact properties and amenities vary, so it always makes sense to compare.
With that in mind, Fine Hotels & Resorts updates their member hotels every year. Last year I wrote about the ~100 properties joining in 2016.
Within the past week, Fine Hotels & Resorts has announced that 77 new hotels will be joining their portfolio in 2017, bringing the total number of hotels up to over 975.
Some of the hotels joining are ones that just recently opened, while others have been around for a while but are looking to spruce up business by joining the program.
FHRNews has a list of some of the new hotels that will be joining, as most of them are already bookable.
For example, The Prince Gallery Tokyo is a new SPG Luxury Collection property, so by booking through Fine Hotels & Resorts you’d receive complimentary breakfast, a room upgrade, guaranteed late check-out, a $100 food & beverage credit, etc.
Similarly The New York Edition (which is a Marriott family property) has joined, and is offering a $100 food & credit, plus a third night free. So this is a great option for Marriott loyalists in New York.
Tiffany recently reviewed Las Alcobas, a Starwood Luxury Collection hotel in Mexico City. That hotel is now also joining FHR, and is offering the standard benefits plus a $100 spa services credit.
If you haven’t yet used American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts, it’s a fantastic program I take advantage of all the time, in addition to Virtuoso. Even if you’re already familiar with the program, it’s always worth checking when you’re booking a stay, since new hotels are added every year. I imagine many of these hotels will be added to Virtuoso shortly as well.
I especially love when hotels belonging to the major chains join, as it offers the ability to earn points and get elite benefits, while also getting additional perks on top of that.
Have you ever booked through Amex Fine Hotels & Resorts? If so, at which hotels?
