Since September 1, 2016, Hilton HHonors has been offering their Double Up promotion, where you can earn double HHonors base points for all stays through the end of the year. This is essentially the same promotion that Hilton has been offering all year, which is great given that all properties are participating in the promotion.

Hilton-Bonus

Well, Hilton has just announced a great add on to this promotion. For the rest of the year you can earn triple HHonors base points for all stays booked through the Hilton HHonors app. Here are the basic details they’ve shared with me:

  • Book and complete any stay from October 4 – December 31, 2016 on the Hilton HHonors app and earn Triple Points.
  • If you’ve already registered for the Double Up promotion prior to October 4, you will not have to register again to earn Triple Points for stays booked in the app.
  • The Hilton HHonors app is available in both the Apple App Store and the Google PLAY Store for download. For more information, visit www.HHonors.com/App.
  • Once again, all hotels are participating, there’s no Point cap max, and no minimum night requirement.

This is a pretty compelling promotion at this point, among the best we’ve seen from Hilton in a long time.

As I’ve said before, Hilton does offer a very good return on everyday spend for hotel stays. If you’re a Diamond member with the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card you’d earn an average of 50 points per dollar spent with Hilton:

  • 10 base points per dollar spent
  • 5 additional points per dollar spent for choosing Points & Points
  • 10 bonus points per dollar spent through the Double Up promotion
  • 10 bonus points per dollar spent for booking through the app
  • 5 bonus points per dollar spent if a Diamond member
  • 10 points per dollar spent on the Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card

I value Hilton points at ~0.4 cents each, so that’s quite a compelling return as you can see. Even as a non-elite member not using Hilton’s credit card you’re looking at 35 bonus HHonors points per dollar spent.

Bottom line

Kudos to Hilton on this promotion. Given that all properties are participating, that there are no minimum stay requirements, and that there are no thresholds, this is a pretty compelling promotion for the average person. 35+ points per dollar spent at Hilton properties is tough to beat… just be sure you book through the app starting tomorrow.

Comments

  1. So, if you already have a reward stay booked via the website, any idea if you could cancel and re-book through the app to get the triple points on incidentals?

  2. @Lucky – the return could be even higher – AmEx Surpass card gives 12 points per dollar spent @ a Hilton property, and you can also book (at some properties) the 2x Points Package for another set of double points on top of the promotion.

  3. No exceptions if you book using AAA or Govt rates? Pretty Amex also has a 5000 point bonus offer for Hilton Branded properties.

  4. Let B, be the number of base points earned for a stay

    Total Haul = B + 0.5B + 0.5B + B + B + 1.2B = B * (1 + 0.5 + 0.5 + 1 + 1 + 1.2) = 5.2B

    B = $ * 10 ($ = elite spend for the stay, including incidentals).

    Total Haul = 5.2 * $ * 10 = 52 * $

Whopping and brisk 52 HH points/$ if one pays with the HH AMEX Surpass, which I always do!

I will see about canceling ad rebooking with the app (sometimes the rate can even be lower!).

BTW, @Lucky, where is this published? I usual get emails for promos from HH unless they are targeted. Are we sure this is not?

  5. @DCS
The post says the promotion starts on Oct 4, which his tomorrow.
I’d guess there’s no link to the promotion yet, but there will be one tomorrow.
Hilton probably just gave Lucky a one-day heads up so he can write about it.

  6. @Tom – Thanks. That may explain why no email yet…

I will keep an eye out for an official email notification of the promo before canceling and rebooking, unless there are reports that this works for all.

  7. One downside; can’t book the Hilton Family MVP rate using the app. The savings on that can be substantial (more so than the extra points).

  8. This is pretty much what loyaltylobby reported at the beginning of the promotion, but it was never backed up… hope this is true as I have several upcoming stays I can shift to Hilton if I want, once I complete the Hyatt promo next week, of course.

  9. Just checked the two stays I intend to cancel and rebook with the HH app if this is for real, and one still shows the same exact rate and the rate for the other went up just $1. So, I hope the official announcement comes out today (10-4)!

  10. @Eric — HHonors does not care. Their promo always earn points — but in your case, 3x only on incidentals because C+P are considered award stays. You earn elite-qualifying night/stay/base point credit.

  11. So if I book via the app (3x points) promo AND select the “2x Points Package” – am I earning 6x points, or 4x points or some other amount?

Amateur question – but I have a large number of stays left this year.

    thanks!!

  12. Hey, say, whatever happened to this deal about HHonors sweetening their global Q4 promo from 2x to 3x? In addition to 2 stays that I was contemplating canceling and rebooking to take advantage of it, I just booked 1 revenue and 3 award stays that could also take advantage of this enhancement. I keep checking my email hoping to find an official announcement but nothing so far. Afraid that rates in cash or points might begin to be increased as we get closer to the year-end festivities, I decided to go ahead and book these new stays to “lock them in” at the current rates, but that has increased the number of bookings I would have to cancel and rebook — perhaps even at higher rates that may cancel out any benefit.

Was the little bird that leaked the news of this offer a knowledgeable and reliable source? The same 3x offer was rumored before but it never panned out so this may have been a similar rumor… Just wondering.

  13. FInally: I just got an email from HHonorswith subject line: This promotion just got 3X bet
