Choice Privileges Offering Elite Status Matches

Hotel status matches seem quite popular lately, perhaps due to the consolidation happening in the industry. For example, Hilton has been offering status matches all the way to Diamond since late last year, which I know many have taken advantage of. I assume the promotion is at least partly motivated by Marriott’s takeover of Starwood, and them wanting to capture any of the guests who might be looking for a new hotel chain.

Choice Privileges is status matching

As far as more budget hotel chains go, it looks like Choice Privileges is offering status matches as well. As a reminder, Choice Privileges is the loyalty program for Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Clarion, EconoLodge, Roadway Inn, and more.

A status match can be requested by emailing Status_Match@choicehotels.com with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Choice Privileges member number
  • Proof of elite status in other hotel program:
    • Screenshot or copy of your other program’s loyalty card (with expiration date)
    • Or, screenshot or copy of other program’s current statement or account status page

As far as the basic terms go:

  • The offer is valid to US based members only
  • The highest elite status which will be awarded through the offer is Platinum
  • Each member can get one status match per lifetime, which will be valid through the end of next year

Choice Privileges has three elite tiers — Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, so let’s talk a bit about what Gold and Platinum status get you (which can be attained through this offer).

Choice Privileges Gold status:

  • 10 nights required per calendar year (reward nights count toward elite status)
  • 10% elite point bonus
  • Book 50 days in advance for reward nights
  • Exclusive reservations and customer services phone numbers (US and Canada members only)
  • Exclusive Elite member offers
  • Choose 250 bonus points or a snack and beverage at check-in for stays at U.S. Comfort Suites hotels

Bottom line

It’s possible that this status match campaign is in response to the recent news of Carlson Hotels being bought, or perhaps in response to Wyndham Rewards finally introducing elite status.

Regardless, having some status is better than having no status, but these aren’t exactly rich perks being offered. That’s probably primarily because there are only so many perks you can offer at budget hotels, given that many don’t have premium rooms. Platinum members earn bonus points, a welcome gift at US Comfort Suites hotels, and can book reward nights further out than standard members.

So if you are interested, requesting the status match should be quite easy.

  1. “Each member can get one status match per lifetime, which will be valid through the end of next year”

3 years ago I matched Hilton Gold to Choice Platinum. Earlier this year, I emailed choice again asking for a status match. They gave me Platinum again with no questions asked. So I am sure it will be a case by case basis, but I was not affected by that once per lifetime mathc.

  2. The 75 day window to book awards is the best perk in my opinion. My best use of Choice Points is in Japan for 8,000 points a night that includes a modest breakfast. Not aspirational, but a great money saver, especially for longer trips where Hyatt could eat through my UR points in a hurry.

  3. status matching is great, but I don’t think I will even book 1 night in the coming year.
