Today Only: 20% Off Marriott Gift Cards

Today is the second to last day of Daily Getaways, which is a five week promotion intended to support US tourism. It offers opportunities to purchase discounted hotel points and travel packages.

I’ve shared my initial thoughts on the packages for sale, including the offers for weeks one and two, and then separately the offers for weeks three, four, and five. Daily Getaways packages go on sale at 1PM ET every weekday, and the more popular packages sell out very quickly, so you’ll want to be fast, if interested.

Today we’re seeing one of the most straightforward Daily Getaways packages, which it’s tough to go wrong with.

Today at 1PM you’ll have the opportunity to purchase Marriott gift cards for 20% off.

Daily Getaways is selling three types of packages for Marriott gift cards, as follows:

Number Of PointsPackage CostSavingsNumber Of Packages
$100 Marriott gift card$8020% off1070
$250 Marriott gift card$20020% off252
$500 Marriott gift card$40020% off200

You can purchase at most two of each gift card, so in theory you could purchase up to a total of six gift cards. In practice I suspect they’ll disappear pretty quickly, though.

These gift cards don’t expire, and can be used at virtually any Marriott family hotel, including Ritz-Carltons. These gift cards will be issued by email, and you should receive them 10-14 days after the promotion is complete. They can be used worldwide, though the exchange rate used for them might not be great at some properties outside the US.

The good news is that they’re selling significantly more gift cards than through last year’s promotion. The bad news is that they lowered the maximum gift card amount from $1,000 to $500.

Since Marriott is taking over Starwood, I’m almost tempted to take advantage of this offer, as I’m sure I’ll be able to use these 20% off gift cards within a year or two at most.

Bottom line

It’s tough to go wrong with buying Marriott gift cards for 20% off, given that they don’t expire and are accepted worldwide. I suspect these gift cards will sell out pretty quickly (though perhaps not instantly, given the quantity available), so I’d be on Daily Getaways’ website at 1PM ET sharp refreshing the page if you want a shot at snagging some of these cards.

Do you plan on buying Marriott gift cards for 20% off?

  1. Thanks for the heads-up. Any idea on the merchant category code used for these daily getaway purchases (I’ve never managed to snag one)? If I time it right, I’d like to maximize any bonus category return if there is one.

  2. @ Andy — Yep, it sounds as “travel agency.” So Chase Sapphire Preferred and Citi ThankYou Premier earn bonus points, for example.

  3. Higher cost gift certificates were sold out nearly instantly, but I managed to get two $100 gift cards. That is an easy $40 of savings. Thanks for publicizing it Lucky!

  4. “Today is the second to last day of Daily Getaways”, you mean week? Hertz and Hyatt are still coming next week!
