Details Of All 2016 Daily Getaways Deals Now Published

As I first wrote about in February, Daily Getaways is returning this year. This is a promotion sponsored by the US Travel Association, which has been offered the past several years as a way of encouraging US tourism. The promotion has consisted of all kinds of travel packages, including offers on car rentals, hotel stays, loyalty program points, and theme park admission.

This year Daily Getaways is returning from April 4 through May 6, 2016.

Daily-Getaways-2016

On Monday Daily Getaways revealed the deals we can expect for the first two weeks of this year’s promotion, given that it’ll be starting next week.

Well, now Daily Getaways has published the details of the deals we can expect for weeks three, four, and five.

I figured I’d cover the basics here, and then will do a more in-depth analysis closer to when the individual deals go live:

Bottom line

I’ll have a more in-depth analysis before the major promotions go live, but I’d say my conclusion for weeks three through five is roughly the same as for the first two weeks. There are some potentially good niche deals, like in Las Vegas, and with Loews and Fairmont. Beyond that I’d say:

  • 20% off Marriott gift cards is a great deal if you stay at Marriotts with any frequency
  • Hyatt points at ~1.1 cents each are a fantastic deal, though if past years are any indiction, they’ll be gone in a split second, so it’s almost like entering a lottery
  • Buying Hertz points can represent a potentially good deal, especially if you rent in expensive markets and do one-way rentals
  • The Avis certificates can be a good deal as well, and some will find it worthwhile to purchase Avis Chairman’s Club
  • Many will find purchasing Hilton points for half a penny each worthwhile, as there are circumstances where you’ll come out way ahead under such an offer; that’s not a rate at which I’d speculatively buy Hilton points, though

Which of the above Daily Getaways offers interests you most?

Comments

  1. Supposedly number of Hyatt packages has gone up but, yeah, going to be a challenge to get them.

May try for 100K Hilton package as well.

P.S. Would’ve been amazing to have SPG participate *sigh*

  2. Do you happen to know the price of the Diamond Resorts 5 night certificate and where they can be used or will that info come out closer to when the deal goes live?

  3. The $50 for $25 Alamo package is useful. I’ve gotten $25 in Southwest points sometimes off of Alamo rentals during the right promo or time of year (when rentals in a market are cheap).

  4. is that a typo on the last hyatt package?
“14,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points for $260 (120 packages available)”

  5. Did anyone notice when they clicked into the details on the hyatt terms that it talked about redeeming only at category 4 hotels??? Seems like an odd T/C. If they’re giving you 72000 hyatt points, can’t they be used anywhere? I mean how could hyatt conceivably control where you redeem your points. Free night certs are one thing…points are points right? Or am I mistaken…

  6. It says something about the hyatt promo where it’s only redeemable in category 4 hotels??? Is that real?
“Package includes 30,000 Hyatt Gold Passport® bonus points that may be redeemed at participating Hyatt Gold Passport® Category 4 hotels”

  7. steve s,
i asked Lucky the same question last year.
and the answer is you can use the points on whatever category you wish. they are just giving you an example.
purchased points are deposited to your general account. i should know because i am the few lucky ones that got to purchase gp points last year.

  8. One would think the Hilton offers would get better as the price point goes up. Nope. I’m very underwhelmed at the entire showcase. I used to look forward to these deals. No deals no more.

  9. The Hilton “deals” are, well, not really deals. Comparing at 2 different levels where I frequently stay, the Berlin Doubletree, and the Hilton Paris La Defense, it would be cheaper to just pay the AAA rate for a room. That’s not even counting that when you pay for a room, you get miles back.

I can see where the Hyatt packages might be a good deal, for folks that spend hundreds of $ a night on a regular basis. Those of us who don’t usually do that don’t have to worry about there being a snowball’s chance in hell of getting one of them. 🙂

  10. If we buy one of the MLife packages, can we count it towards a Hyatt stay (add on hyatt at checkin) and get points for the promotion / in general?

  11. 100,000 Hilton HHonors points for $500 (160 packages available)

Or just get the Amex Surpass card and get 100k points for the $75 AF provided you’ve never had it before.

  12. @Linda – Of course they can. What did you think you were supposed to use a hotel gift card for?

  13. It could have just been valid for dining, gift shop, anything other than the room … I actually have a reservation at Marriott for those dates, so it would be great to bring the cost of the room down – I didn’t want to be surprised by the fine print.
