Virgin America is offering up to 20% off fares booked through this Sunday, February 14, 2016. The discount is valid for travel between February 27 and April 27, 2016. To take advantage of this promotion, simply enter promotion code TAN20 at the time of booking (though worry not, the discount is also valid for destinations where you don’t stand a chance of getting a tan, like Portland and Seattle).
There are a few things to be aware of with this promotion:
- Valid for one-way or roundtrip travel
- Valid for travel in Main Cabin, Main Cabin Select, or First Class
- 20% off travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays
- 10% off travel on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays
- Not valid for travel on Sundays, and for travel to/from Hawaii
- Blackout dates apply for travel March 18, 19, 25, 26, and 28
In general airfare is down a bit this spring compared to last year, and the prices are even more reasonable with this 20% discount. For example, here are the fares between Los Angeles and Seattle before the promotion:
And then here are the fares after entering promotion code TAN20:
I also love that the promotion is valid for travel in first class, given that Virgin America has reasonable first class fares in many markets. Their first class seats are recliners with 55″ of pitch, which are comparable to an old international business class seats. That’s pretty unbeatable for a shorter flight.
As usual, you can either credit your flights on Virgin America to their own Elevate frequent flyer program, where you’ll earn five points per dollar spent (each can be redeemed for ~2.2 cents towards the cost of a ticket on Virgin America). Otherwise you can also credit those flights to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, where you’ll accrue miles based on your fare class and distance flown, as follows:
If you have upcoming travel to plan, it’s definitely worth looking at this promotion from Virgin America. It’s tough to beat 20% off some already great fares, especially when first class fares are also eligible.
