Several days ago I wrote about how Amex Offers was off to a strong start for the year, with a (widely) targeted offer for $50 off a hotel stay of $250 or more. That’s a pretty awesome offer, given that it had very few restrictions — I’m guessing just about anyone who likes to travel and was targeted will be able to take advantage of this.

Well, here’s another Amex Offers promotion which has the potential to save you cash on a hotel stay.

The Amex Offer is for a $60 statement credit off a stay at a US Hilton property of $300 or more, valid through April 11, 2016.

Here are the basic details of the Amex Offer:

Get a 1X $60 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $300+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Hilton Hotels & Resorts from 1/6/16 to 4/11/16. Book direct with Hilton Hotels & Resorts.  Brand exclusions apply.

Unlike the previous promotion, this Amex Offer isn’t targeted. In my case the offer automatically showed on the dashboard for my Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express and Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card. If the offer doesn’t show up for one of your accounts, you can register via Twitter by Tweeting #AmexHilton (first make sure you sync your American Express card and Twitter account).

In theory it could very well be that these two promotions can be stacked, as I don’t see anything in the terms excluding that. In other words, it might be possible that a $300+ stay at a US Hilton would trigger the $60 Hilton credit and $50 hotel credit, for a total of $110 off the cost of such a hotel stay.

There also seems to be a similar offer for a stay at a Hampton Inn in the US, though it has a lower spending threshold, and offers a $35 return on spend of $175+.

Here are the full terms of the Hilton version of the promotion:

Offer only valid at Hilton Hotels & Resorts in the US & US territories. Excludes Waldorf Astoria™ Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts™, Canopy by Hilton™, Curio – A Collection by Hilton™, DoubleTree by Hilton™, Embassy Suites by Hilton™, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hampton by Hilton™, Homewood Suites by Hilton™, Home2 Suites by Hilton™ and Hilton Grand Vacations™. Reservations must be made online at hilton.com, via the HHonors App or by calling 1-800-445-8667. Offer valid only on room rate and room charges. Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates. Excludes gift card purchases. Please note that hotels, car rental companies, cruise lines do not accept prepaid cards for charges authorized in advance, although prepaid cards may be used to settle the final bill. Check to make sure prepaid cards are accepted before attempting to use your prepaid card to take advantage of offers for these merchants. Corporate Cards are not eligible for this offer. Enrollment limited. Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Only US-issued American Express® Cards are eligible for this offer. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express Card across all American Express offer channels. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 4/11/2016, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. POID: BZ2S:0001

Bottom line

I know many people have recently status matched to Hilton thanks to the generous promotion they’re running, so these Amex Offers are a great way to save some cash on an upcoming Hilton stay. Between the promotion for $50 off any hotel stay and the one for $60 off a US Hilton stay, I’ll be saving at least $110 off the cost of my hotel stays in the coming weeks thanks to American Express.

The best part is that the Hilton offer isn’t even targeted, so anyone with an eligible American Express card can take advantage of that offer.

  1. That is why I’m following every post you have. This didn’t show in my Amex Offers. If I don’t read your post, I would never knew about this.

  2. Old news. Didn’t you used to run off your toilet with your pants at your ankles to be the first mover?

  3. Just in time. Do you know if the “room rate and room charges” included taxes in the past? My stay will be barely over $300 if taxes are included. Thanks!

  4. I wonder if this will work through “authorized channels” as well, like they allow for free wi-fi? e.g. corporate travel agents. How does Amex know if the reservation was booked through Hilton direct? It’s the property that charges the card…
