Targeted: $50 Off A $250+ Sheraton Stay With Amex Offers

One of the most overlooked benefits of American Express cards are Amex Offers, which can in many cases help you earn back your annual fee over and over again (and they’re even available on Amex’s no annual fee cards). For example:

Those are just a few examples which saved me $375.

To access this offers, simply log into your online Amex account and scroll to the bottom of your card summary page, where you’ll see a section titled “Amex Offers & Benefits.”

There are often dozens of offers available at a time, though not everyone is going to find all of them useful. And for that matter, different accounts seem to show different offers.

Through this targeted Amex Offer, you can receive $50 back when you spend $250+ at a Sheraton property in the US between October 28 and December 31, 2015.

One of my Amex cards is targeted for this offer. The basic details are as follows:

Get a 1X $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $250+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts from 10/28/15 to 12/31/15. See terms for brand exclusions.

If you were targeted, you’ll want to register as soon as possible, as registration for these offers is always limited.

Here are the full terms of the promotion:

Reservations must be made online at sheraton.com, via the Starwood Hotels & Resorts App or by calling 1-800-325-3535. Offer only valid at Sheraton® Hotels in the US & US territories. Excludes W® Hotels, St. Regis®, The Luxury Collection® Hotels & Resorts, Le Méridien®, Tribute Portfolio™, Four Points® by Sheraton, Aloft® Hotels, and Element® by Westin. Offer valid only on room rate and room charges. Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates. Excludes Sheraton Store, Sheraton Club and Vacation Ownership. Please note that hotels, car rental companies, cruise lines do not accept prepaid cards for charges authorized in advance, although prepaid cards may be used to settle the final bill. Check to make sure prepaid cards are accepted before attempting to use your prepaid card to take advantage of offers for these merchants. Corporate Cards are not eligible for this offer. Enrollment limited. Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Only US-issued American Express® Cards are eligible for this offer. Limit 1 statement credit per American Express Card across all American Express offer channels. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 12/31/2015, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you will not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer.

Bottom line

These Amex Offers add a ton of value to American Express cards, and are always worth keeping an eye on. I stay mostly at SPG and Hyatt properties, so this promotion will put $50 back in my pocket. That’s in addition to the $130 in savings I pocketed with the previous Amex Offers for Starwood properties.

  1. Hi Ben,

Maybe I am over-analyzing the terms of this offer, but it does not seem to explicity excludes stays at Westin Hotels (only Element by Westin):

“Offer only valid at Sheraton® Hotels in the US & US territories. Excludes W® Hotels, St. Regis®, The Luxury Collection® Hotels & Resorts, Le Méridien®, Tribute Portfolio™, Four Points® by Sheraton, Aloft® Hotels, and Element® by Westin.”

This is actually directly relevant to an upcomming stay I need to book where there is both a Westin and a Sheraton but the Westin is decidely nicer. Any chance this offer was intended to include bookings at Westin?

    Thanks,
    Zach

  2. Worth noting that for all of these offers, in my experience booking a prepaid room rate (totaling more than the minimum spend) before Dec 31 for a stay after Dec 31 will result in the room being charged to the card now, and the bonus will still apply.

  3. Hi Ben,
I just started reading your blog a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it so much! I’m new to points and miles, but share your love of travel, so I’ve been spending a lot of time trying to absorb all your tips.

Anyway, I have 3 AMEX cards: Costco, Hilton Honors, and Delta. I think it’s odd that the Sheraton deal only appears for my Costco AMEX (which I rarely use). To get the deal, I’d have to add it to a specific card (in this case Costco), which is annoying to me. I’ve been trying to use my Delta AMEX card to reach the $25,000 spending in one year for the MQD waiver, and would rather add deals to the Delta AMEX only. Have you noticed the deals are tied to certain AMEX cards but not others? Andrea

  4. Thanks, targeted on several of my cards.

In my experience with the previous promotion with W Hotels, AmEx has no idea where you booked the reservation, so as long as the hotel’s charging you directly (and not Orbitz or Priceline or whatever), you should get the credit. In that case, my stay was booked through our corporate travel agency, and still netted me the statement credit (actually two of them since I split the stay between two AmEx cards).

FWIW, I also had a $50 off $250 for Embassy Suites offer with similar T&C on one of my cards.

  5. How are Amex Offers overlooked when we have like 6 posts a day about them on Boarding area? Every single time a new one drops, even if nobody cares about or was targeted for it, several obligatory posts on here extol it. I’d actually say they’re the exact opposite of overlooked.

  6. @ Doug:

    a) 99.9999% of the population doesn’t read BoardingArea
    b) A majority of the people reading my site don’t read all the other sites on BoardingArea

  7. So if you have a 500$ charge, can you split it on two cards you have the offer on and get $50 on each?

  8. Thanks Ben. Am at a Sheraton right now and checking out on Thursday with the amount over 600. I will try to do this and let you know how it goes.

  9. I have the SPG Amex and the Hilton Amex. Guess what? I wasn’t targeted! No surprises but still a disappointment.

  10. Does anyone have any luck triggering this offer when staying overseas Sheraton properties booked through SPG?

  11. Old post, but new question. Did anyone have experience getting this to work by booking an advanced purchase rate during the promo period? I want to pull the trigger on a stay next month, but the most recent promo ends on 10/31.
