Winter 2015 IHG PointBreaks Hotels Now Bookable

Yesterday I wrote about the upcoming PointBreaks deals for winter. PointBreaks is one of the most lucrative promotions in the hotel industry, whereby select hotels are bookable for just 5,000 points per night.

Well, while the PointBreaks list hasn’t yet been updated, the hotels participating in the promotion are now bookable for 5,000 points per night! Simply go to the individual hotels’ websites (links below) in order to book a stay at the PointBreaks rate.

As a reminder, IHG Rewards Club’s PointBreaks promotion is traditionally one of the best promotions in the hotel industry. Through this promotion, select hotels are available for just 5,000 points per night. Since IHG Rewards Club points can be indirectly purchased for 0.7 cents each, that’s like booking stays at certain hotels for just $35 per night.

Also keep in mind that last year IHG Rewards Club updated the terms of PointBreaks bookings, and you can only book two stays per hotel per promotion:

Due to the limited availability, each member may only book two PointBreaks® Reward Nights reservations per hotel during the special offer time period.

Beyond that, those with the the IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card also receive 10% off award redemptions, reducing the cost even further. You’d get a refund of 500 IHG Rewards Club points for each PointBreaks night you book.

Here’s a map IHG put together of the participating PointBreaks properties:

Bottom line

While this isn’t the most exciting PointBreaks list we’ve seen, it’s tough to argue with paying just 5,000 points per night for a hotel room. In general I’d recommend booking sooner rather than later, as the better hotels tend to book out. PointBreaks stays are refundable in the same way as other award stays, so you can always lock in a stay now and cancel later.

Do you plan on making a booking at any of the winter 2015 PointBreaks properties?

Comments

  1. Yep–booked a Holiday Inn Express near West Palm. We don’t always–in fact rarely–stay in aspirational properties. And since I needed one night after a late airport arrival, this seems like a good choice. Also, rates were over $200 a night so seems particularly good in that light.

  2. Factoring in the 30% bonus on buying 1.000-10.000 IHG points, a night at the IC Semiramis in Cairo (which is one of Cairo’s top hotels) is ONLY $54.

  3. As I noted elsewhere online, premium rooms are available at some properties – executives, suites, etc. A number of properties seem to have (most likely accidentally) made all of their inventory available for award booking. Congrats if you can make it work.

  4. Being just back from Alexandria, checked in InterCon Semiramis this evening. Amazing timing & amazing value, especially considering almost 24% Cairo hotel tax. lol. Surprisingly Plat status recognition /treatment was very satisfying at the time of check in. No problem to be upgraded to high-floor & Nile view room, and some drink coupons. Will fly to Doha to taste al safwa lounge in the end of this week. ! 😉

  5. Hi Ben,

I don’t see any 5000 points awards at Holiday Inn Hainan Clear Water Bay – China. There is only 25000, or not available. Does the hotel intend to do that or it is technical glitch?

    Thanks
