One Day Left: 50% Bonus On Purchased Club Carlson Points

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Please check out our advertiser policy for further details about the partners we work with. Thanks for your support!

Club Carlson is offering a 72-hour flash sale on the purchase of points. Through 8:59AM EDT tomorrow, August 14, 2015, Club Carlson is offering a 50% bonus on purchased points.

The promotion has apparently been live for a couple of days already, though I just found out about it today.

Club Carlson limits you to purchasing 40,000 points per account per calendar year, so factoring in the 50% bonus, you can buy a maximum of 60,000 points through this promotion. The 60,000 points would cost you $280, meaning they’re charging ~0.47 cents per point.

To frame this promotion in the context of past ones, last year we saw Club Carlson offer a 100% bonus on purchased points, which is the best bonus we’ve seen. They also offered a 75% bonus last year.

Not only is this bonus not quite as good as past ones in terms of the cent per point cost, but Club Carlson has also devalued considerably since then:

Personally I value Club Carlson points somewhere in the range of 0.35-0.4 cents each. That being said, with the right redemptions in mind you can absolutely get more than value out of your points than that.

Also keep in mind that while you’re limited to purchasing 40,000 points (pre-bonus) per account per calendar year, you can always purchase points for multiple accounts, and then combine the points in those accounts for free. All members can combine points within a household, and elite members can combine points with anyone. Keep in mind those with the Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature® Card get automatic elite status in the Club Carlson program.

The full terms of the promotion are as follows:

The Gold Points 72 Hour Flash Sale offer (the “Offer”) is valid for Gold Points purchased between 8:59 A.M. EDT on August 11, 2015 and 8:59 A.M. EDT on August 14, 2015 (“Offer Period”). Participants will earn a bonus equal to 50% of Gold Points purchased during the Offer Period (e.g., 500 bonus points for each 1,000 points purchased). Bonus points will not count toward the annual 40,000 point purchase maximum. Bonus points and purchased points will be posted to the member’s Club Carlson account or the gift recipient’s Club Carlson account, as applicable, as one transaction within 2-5 days of purchase. Club Carlson reserves the right to add, modify, or discontinue the Offer without notice. Void where prohibited by law. By participating in this Offer, you agree and consent to these Terms and Conditions, the Points Purchase Terms and Conditions (except as modified above), and the Club Carlson Terms and Conditions.

Bottom line

Ultimately we’ve seen better promotions on the purchase of Club Carlson points, and for that matter the program being devalued doesn’t help either. That being said, I’m sure there are still some people who will find value in purchasing Club Carlson points with a 50% bonus.

  1. Considering 2-night redemptions at some properties (including all the Radisson Blu properties in the US) have gone from at most 50,000 total (for those with the credit card) to 140,000 points, I will pass on this.

  2. For one who usually stays at Country Inn and Suites, I generally stay at places that are 9000 or 15000 points per night. This promotion is a pretty good deal for me.
