IHG Sweetens “Share Forever” Summer Promotion With Double Points

In May IHG Rewards Club rolled out their “Share Forever” promotion, whereby you can earn bonus points by completing certain tasks. The promotion was targeted, in the sense that it was open to all members, but different members were offered different tasks and different rewards. My promotion looked like this:

IHG-Promo-1

While I’m not much of an IHG person anymore, that’s not a half bad promotion. My earning potential after 33 nights is up to 68,500 points for me and up to 58,500 points to share (those shared points don’t have to be shared — you can also deposit them into your own account).

IHG-1

Anyway, IHG is making this promotion even more lucrative for those based in the Americas. IHG Rewards Club members in the Americas who registered for the “Share Forever” promotion are eligible to receive double base points between July 15 and August 15, 2015.

The email read as follows:

Dear Benjamin,

Have you ever put on an old pair of jeans and found money in the pocket? Now imagine doing that with points.

Stay at any IHG property between July 15- August 15 and you’ll find double points in your account—just because you’re awesome. Since you’re already registered for Share Forever, all that’s left to do is book. And you’ll also get your rewards to share. Not too shabby, right?

More to earn. More to share. This summer is pretty sweet.

It is worth noting the terms associated with the promotion:

Open to legal residents of Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Canada, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the 50 U.S. (and D.C), Puerto Rico, Uruguay, and Venezuela who are eighteen (18) years old or older at the time of registration. You must be an IHG Rewards Club member to register. Qualifying Hotel Night Stays must be completed by 7 September 2015to be included in Offer program. For complete Terms and Conditions and complete details, click here.

Specifically, it’s limited to members in the Americas, and you need to have registered for the “Share Forever” promotion to be eligible (though there’s no need to register separately for this bonus).

As a reminder, IHG Rewards Club offers 5-10 base points per dollar spent, depending on which brand you stay at.

IHG-Points-Earnings

I value IHG Rewards Club points at ~0.6 cents each, so an extra 5-10 points equates to an additional return of 3-6%. That’s not bad, on top of all the other points you can earn through this promotion.

Bottom line

This summer has ended up being quite lucrative on the hotel promotion front almost across the board. That’s sort of surprising, given how full hotels are, and that summer is historically a period without many hotel promotions. IHG’s “Share Forever” promotion already had the potential to be very lucrative, so when you add in an extra 5-10 points per dollar spent, it’s looking even better.

Do you plan on completing your “Share Forever” promotion this summer?

Comments

  1. In the meantime they launch a new top elite status level that after you spend 75 nights in their properties you don’t even get a free donut for breakfast. Shame on you IHG!!!!

  2. This doesn’t include the points you can get for paying with the IHG credit card either. IHG is devaluing some but still a good chain in many ways. I wish they would make all the properties 10x. I like Candlewood and Staybridge but I don’t stay there often because of the reduced earnings. I think Hampton in is like this on the Hilton side. I understand why they do it as to save on long term stays but maybe they could revise is so you earn 10x for nights 1-3 and then 5x or something.

  3. @ Ivan Y — Best I can tell it’s open to anyone with an account registered in an eligible reason. Maybe hold off a bit longer, as they could still be sending out emails?

  4. I have no complaints about all these promotions going on, but wasn’t the hotel industry suppose to be having some the best year?
