Last Chance For Citi AAdvantage 50K Sign-Up Bonus?

Links:

For quite a while now, both the personal and business versions of the Citi AAdvantage cards have offered a generous sign-up bonus of 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after making $3,000 in purchases within the first three months of account opening. The cards both have $95 annual fees, which are waived the first year.

Anyway, it looks like there will be a change to this offer in the next couple of hours, as I’ve been asked to pull links for the cards at 12PM ET. It could be that it’s just a very minor change, or it could be that it’s a substantial change.

For what it’s worth:

  • These offers have been marketed as “limited time,” which Citi doesn’t do for all offers; that suggests the offer will change at some point in the not-too-distant future
  • One of the main reasons Citi had a 50,000 mile sign-up bonus is because Barclaycard was still issuing their co-branded US Airways card at the time; in the meantime Barclaycard doesn’t have the right to issue those cards anymore, since AAdvantage and Dividend Miles merged

Anyway, if you’ve been eying either of the above cards, I’d seriously consider applying in the next couple of hours. It could be that the offer stays the same, it could be that it even goes up (though Citi is good about matching current offers for those that recently applied), but if there’s a change I think it’s most likely it goes down for the reasons stated above.

Totally speculation on my part, but I figured I’d give you guys a heads up.

  1. “Last chance” to collect affiliate fees, maybe, but therefore suggesting that it is the last chance to get the bonus is very misleading. Zombie links are saved elsewhere on the web and tend to work for many months afterwards.

  2. Thanks for the heads up, this card has been on my short list, but kept putting it off. Saw where all the other pages were changing to 30k offers, got the business for me and personal for wife. Thanks!!!

  3. if you look at citi’s website its already advertising only a 30k sign up bonus.

i just signed up through your link. Think i should be safe!

  4. If still in the 65 day window with 2 other Citi cards, does the Business card count against it?

  5. Lucky – what’s the average “wait time” for the Citi business card? I got mine 6 months ago, so I’m not sure if it’s too early to get another one.

  6. It’s down to 30K, BUT – does anyone remember what the minimum spend requirement was for the Business card? The new offer states a $1000 spend in 3 months. –

“Apply now and earn 30,000 bonus miles after you make $1,000 in purchases within first 3 months of account opening1 – that’s enough for a domestic round-trip MileSAAver® award (fees may apply2)! ”

I always assumed the spend was $3K even for this biz card. If so, I suppose the $1K spend now can be of some consolation…

  7. Lucky,

I applied for the 50k offer for the biz card via your link at about 11:30 ET. Now I can’t remember what the offer page said when I clicked the link. Do you think I’ll get the 50k? I’m really hoping its not 30k. I applied for the 30k (personal) last year about a week or 2 before the 50k offer appeared and lost out. Wouldn’t want to miss out again.
    Thx!

  8. Lucky – I applied and got approved for the biz card via your link at about 11:30 today, but can’t remember what the offer page said. I should get the 50k, shouldn’t I?

  9. @Arun – The spend for both personal & business was $3k in 3 months to get the 50k miles. I’m very happy that they dropped the spending requirement, even if it means lower bonuses. I might be able to do $3k in 3 months, but it’d be tough (I don’t MS). I wish they’d do the same for the Executive card.

  10. @ Sher — If it was through the link on this page, yes. I pulled the link when the offer changed.
