1,000 Free American AAdvantage Miles

American has sent out an email to AAdvantage members offering 1,000 free bonus miles for taking part in AAdvantage University, which can be completed in just a couple of minutes.

Free-AAdvantage-1

Here’s how it’s described:

Learn more about the American Airlines AAdvantage® program and earn up to 1,000 bonus miles. Plus, you could win two First Class round-trip tickets to anywhere we fly.

Reach your goal quicker with AAdvantage® University, where you’ll find everything you need to know about the program to help you reach your full travel potential. And as you learn, you can earn up to a one-time maximum of 1,000 AAdvantage bonus miles.Your miles earned will be saved upon completion of registration. So remember, if you leave before registering, you will have to start over when you return.

To enter, simply follow this link. On the first page you can enter your dream destination (though don’t have to).

Free-AAdvantage-2

You’ll then be brought to the AAdvantage University page, where there are six courses. You get 150 AAdvantage miles for each course you complete, and 100 bonus miles if you complete all six courses, for a total of 1,000 AAdvantage miles.

Free-AAdvantage-3

Each course has a short video which lasts 1-2 minutes. Then you have to answer one question based on the video. That being said, you can fast forward to the end of the video and the question will pop up immediately. This will save you about 10 minutes if you do it for each course. The questions are really basic, so almost anyone should be able to answer them without watching the videos.

Free-AAdvantage-4

Once you’ve completed all six courses you’ll be asked to enter your name, email address, and AAdvantage number.

Free-AAdvantage-5

You’ll receive a confirmation (both on the next page and by email) confirming that you’ll receive 1,000 bonus miles and are entered for a chance to win a first class trip to anywhere American flies (which actually comes in the form of 840,000 American AAdvantage miles, which can be redeemed any way you want).

Free-AAdvantage-6

The promotion is open to US residents through June 12, 2015, and bonus miles should post 6-8 weeks after the promotion ends.

Bottom line

If you skip directly to the end of each video this should only take a couple of minutes, so is an easy way to earn 1,000 bonus AAdvantage miles. I value American miles at ~1.8 cents each, so to me this is like an ~$18 prize. Furthermore, if nothing else it will help reset the expiration date of your AAdvantage miles.

Comments

  1. i haven’t linked my AA accounts yet, I have 3. Does this mean I can potentially get 3,000 miles? 1 per account?

  2. I was looking for a way to reset the expiration date of my AA points. My trip to Europe on OpenSkies will not be in time and I couldn’t figure out a way to get AA to recognize the points beforehand. This is a perfect solution. Thanks!

  3. @Lisa

840k miles would cover 4 one way trips for First Class based on AAnytime awards to Asia Region 2, basically enough for 2 people to fly round trip

  4. Email says the retail value is $16,716. (I guess they are valuing the miles at $.02 per mile.) That should result in a nice tax bill.

  5. Topeka is the tourist mecca of Kansas capitals. I will be there this weekend and will surely let them know you’re on the way! 😉

  6. Pah – just read through the whole article to see ‘US only’ at the end – can you make this more prominent next time, perhaps in the title? Thanks 🙂

  7. Ben, how many miles have you flown in total and how many miles have you earned (credit cards, tier bonus, etc.) in total?

  8. ‘modern day sinbad’ claims it is open to US residents only. Wrong! I completed it with my Australian email address (as did my partner). I am guessing it is open to all AAdvantage members irrespective of where they live. And why wouldn’t it be?

  9. @ Glenn Turnley — I’m just reciting the terms of the promotion. Keep in mind it could be that the miles don’t post with a non-US address.

  10. I completed this when first posted and I still have not received the points. Does it take a while to post? US resident
