Club Carlson has announced their next global promotion, entitled “Triple Points Time.”

Club-Carlson-Triple-Points

Through this promotion, Club Carlson is offering:

  • Triple points for stays between April 6 and June 28, 2015
  • 1,000 bonus points for stays booked through the Club Carlson mobile app between April 6 and June 28, 2015

This promotion is valid on eligible stays, which excludes stays booked using free night awards or Points + Cash. Furthermore, registration is required to participate in the promotion.

Without any promotions, Club Carlson is already extremely generous in terms of the number of points they award for hotel stays:

That means when paying with Club Carlson’s co-branded credit card and staying as a Gold member, you’re earning 37x points per dollar spent. With the triple points promotion you’re earning 77x points per dollar spent, since you earn an extra 40x points per dollar spent (triple base points).

Radisson-Blu-Reykjavik

This is an extremely generous promotion, especially since you can use this in conjunction with a couple of other promotions:

Anyway, this promotion is extremely lucrative. I value Club Carlson points at ~0.4 cents each, so with a return of 77x points per dollar spent (assuming you’re paying with their co-branded credit card, and therefore a Gold member), that’s a return of ~31% on your Club Carlson stays. And that doesn’t factor in the 1,000 points for booking through their app, or any of the other possible promotions.

Furthermore, if you have the co-branded credit card and are eligible for the 30,000 point bonus, then you should be making a stay regardless, given how lucrative the promotion is.

The full terms of the promotion are as follows:

You must be a Club Carlson member to participate in the “Triple Points Time” promotion (“Promotion”). Promotion is valid for Eligible Stays, as defined in the Club Carlson Terms and Conditions, between April 6, 2015 and June 28, 2015 (“Promotion Period”). To earn 40 bonus Gold Points per US. Dollar spent on Eligible Stays in addition to the 20 standard Gold Points per U.S. Dollar spent on Eligible Stays (“Triple Points”), you must register online for the Promotion at clubcarlson.com/triple and provide your Club Carlson member number at the time of reservation or at check-in. Once registered, you will earn Triple Points on Eligible Stays at Quorvus Collection, Radisson Blu®, Radisson®, Park Plaza®, Park Inn® by Radisson and Country Inns & Suites By CarlsonSM hotels worldwide during the Promotion Period. In addition to Triple Points, once you are registered you will earn 1,000 bonus points for Eligible Stays booked on the Club Carlson mobile app. Stays or nights paid for by redeeming points or by using Points + Cash are not eligible for this Promotion. You only need to register once, but you must register before checkout of the Eligible Stay to earn Triple Points for that stay.

Bottom line

In many ways the value of the Club Carlson program is decreasing significantly, given that the second free night benefit on the Club Carlson Visa Card is being eliminated as of June 1, 2015.

That being said, Club Carlson continues to be extremely generous in terms of their rewards structure for hotel stays. It’s interesting to note that Club Carlson also offered a triple points promotion in March, though it was targeted.

Comments

  1. Any problems logging in with the app? I keep getting an error message even though my credentials and all are fine. I need the 1k points since it puts me over the 50k threshold. I tweeted Club Carlson to find out if it’s an app problem and can report back, but just curious if it’s everyone else or just me.
    Thanks,
    Michael

  2. There are no details provided in regards to “30,000 bonus Gold Points with their next eligible stay by August 31, 2015”. There’s only a link to visa card.

  3. Club carlson points are barely worth 33 cents now, so 77x is like getting a 25% credit on your purchase (ex. book a $200 room and get $50 worth of points for a future purchase.

How is this a good deal when they constantly have 25% off (or more) promotions anyway? Nevermind that you can easily get a $200 room for well under $150 if you use priceline or hotwire

  4. @Lucky sez, undeterred: “I value Club Carlson points at ~0.4 cents each.” How does one do “roll of eyes” emoticon?

Your posts are perfectly fine without the absolutely meaningless point “values” that you keep throwing around! They do not add anything at all. Just let the lucrative promo speak for itself. In fact, so very few people micromanage loyalty points that it won’t be a big loss if you dispensed of these valuations altogether…

  5. Well, perhaps Lucky can discuss how he gets to these values per point…instead of moaning about whatever first class flight he recently took. That would return the blog to its old (i.e., useful, value-added) state.

  6. I don’t care about any valuations of cents per points. However it motivated me to get off my butt and book a stay for tonight to take advantage of the triple points and 30k bonus so the points can post early and I can take advantage of booking a 2-4-1 in Europe for later this year. I know the points I earn for this stay will give me 80% of the points I need for a redemption in Vienna that in real terms would cost me 580 euros so I say that’s good value all round.

  7. Note that for many people, Club Carlson points devalued by as much as half earlier this week. Valuation at 0.4c takes into account the ability to book 2 nights for 1, but that goes away.

CC has been offering huge bonuses in 2015, but they’re spending points of a different value.

  8. Oooh, I forgot about the extra points for being Gold and using the Club Carlson Visa. Thanks for the reminder!

  9. Lucky, how is the 35% applied? Darius at MMS is applying 35% to the total 70 points/dollar, and coming out to 94.5 points/dollar. You’ve applied it only to the base 20 points and get (as you indicate) 77 points/dollar. CC’s website is ambiguous. Any actual data on this?

  10. @ Brian — Can’t speak for others, but my valuation of 0.4 cents each was NOT factoring in the two for one offer through the Club Carlson Card, which is why I always said by my valuation it was possible to get up to 0.8 cents per point of value in conjunction with the card.

  11. @ Cogswell — You can combine this promo with a discount on a stay as well, so there’s no reason you couldn’t take advantage of both.

  12. Finally got the 40K from the earlier bonus (was staying @ Marriotts as of late)…now another 30K plus 5K for first phone app booking, plus another 30k for next stay, plus triple points….I’d say my next stay is going to be quite a nice influx to my account…especially in the last few weeks.

  13. @ Lucky
Just a heads-up, it looks like CCarlson has started to charge fees for cancelling your reservation as of May 1st. Perhaps it just happened to be my hotel, but I tried a few bookings thru apr. and I could cancel up to 6pm the day I check-in, w/ no fees. Come 5/1, it’s the full cost of the stay. I did try 3 different price points, not just promotional ones as well….

yet another thing for CCarlson to go down the drain faster…

  14. Hi Lucky,

When I register “Triple Points” promotion, it asks me country. Which country should I register if I want to book a hotel in Copenhagen, Denmark?

  15. @ Makalo — It doesn’t mention which country you register in, you should be eligible for the bonus either way.

  16. Checked in at Park Plaza Riverbank London on Sunday, June 21st. Because I checked out on June 30th, they didn’t award triple points for ANY of the days even though I was signed up for the promotion. Did I really have to book 2 separate reservations ending my first stay on June 28th (end of the promotion period) to receive triple points?
