In mid-February Hyatt launched a promotion whereby they’re offering those with their co-branded Chase credit card a 20% refund on award redemptions through July 31, 2015.
The promotion is even better than that, since it applies to previously made reservations as well as to those that apply for the Chase Hyatt Visa during the promotion period.
I’ll basically receive as many points through this promotion as I do through Hyatt’s spring promotion, given that a 20% refund on award redemptions is huge.
Best of all, this applies to both free night and Points + Cash redemptions, so is extremely lucrative regardless of how you prefer to redeem your points.
The terms of the promotion indicate that the 20% points refund should post within 4-6 weeks.
Though as View from the Wing notes, in practice the 20% points refund is posting much faster than that, typically within a week. For example, I stayed at the Park Hyatt New York for one night on February 17, and the 6,000 point refund posted a week later.
That means you could actually spend the refunded points again during the promotion period, and earn even more points back.
The timing of this is especially perfect since I made a booking at the Park Hyatt Maldives before it was switched from a Category 6 to Category 7 property, meaning I paid 25,000 points per night rather than the new cost of 30,000 points per night. I’ll receive a 5,000 point per night discount on top of that, so am only paying 20,000 points per night — that’s the least the hotel has ever cost.
As you’d expect, the 20% refund is only posting after the actual hotel stay, and not just after the booking is made.
Given that I live in hotels full time, this promotion has caused me to redeem a lot more points during the promotion period, since I have the flexibility to stay where I want when I want.
Has this 20% discount on award redemptions changed your Hyatt stay patterns between now and July?
