1,000 Free Points For Changing Your Hilton HHonors Password

We’ve seen a lot of news of loyalty program accounts being hacked lately, and it looks like some programs are looking to do something about that.

A while back Hilton HHonors added a CAPTCHA when trying to log into your HHonors account. While annoying, it does add a layer of security which prevents hackers from easily running scripts to figure out your log-in info.

The downside of something like a CAPTHA (aside from the fact that I can barely ever make out the images) is that it means you can’t easily update your account balances through programs like AwardWallet.

Well, it looks like Hilton may have a more permanent security solution, as they’ll soon be replacing PINs with passwords (and hopefully eliminating CAPTCHA).

If you change your password by March 8, 2015, you can receive 1,000 HHonors bonus points as a thank you:

Today, to ensure maximum security, Hilton announced that the login process for all Hilton HHonors members is being updated. PIN numbers will no longer be accepted and members will have until March 25, 2015, to create a new password or update their existing password. Members that update their password between February 19 and by March 8, 2015, will be awarded 1,000 Bonus Points as a thank you.

This update will continue to protect the privacy of HHonors members while also allowing Hilton to make accounts more secure as the hospitality industry and loyalty programs are seeing an increased number of security incidents. While we know this is an added measure for our HHonors members, it will help us ensure their accounts are more secure.

To change your password simply log into your Hilton HHonors account. Then at the bottom left of the page click on “Personal Information.”

It’s that easy!

  1. It better not force me to have > 8 chars with a capital and special characters. Hate those IT people who do that.

  2. I’m sure an update is coming, but heads up, it doesn’t work yet. So don’t change it now, you wont get the points.

  3. “Members that update their password between February 19 and by March 8, 2015, will be awarded 1,000 Bonus Points as a thank you.”

I don’t think this is dependent on clicking through a link. We shall see though.

  4. Hilton have updated as follows:

Just wanted to share a quick update. This change has not taken effect yet due to a technical issue on our end, so please tell your readers to hold on changing their passwords for right now. We apologize for the confusion; we shared this update yesterday because we wanted members to be the first to know about this change and the Bonus Points! I will share updates with you as soon as I receive them.

Keep an eye out for this being officially confirmed (…again)

  5. you would think airlines and hotel chains would invest in the best possible IT considering how heavy and complex the use is of their sites. but no, hilton’s IT sucks and god don’t get me started on AA, where it seems every day there’s an alert at the top of the homepage about some functionality not working.

  6. Argh, guess I’ll have to change my PW again in a couple of days.

    Also, how awkwardly worded:
“between February 19 and by March 8, 2015”

Yeah, someone didn’t drink their coffee before they wrote that.

HHonors’ implementation of the CAPTCHA requirement has not affected the automatic update of my HHonors account by AwardWallet, but that could be a function of the AW browser extension for one’s browser, which handles that interaction between AW and the secure loyalty program site. I am using the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7 and 8.1 systems…

  8. I am trying to login now but the captcha is not coming up but it is giving me the message I need to use it when I try and login, so no logins working for me, IE or Chrome. Maybe try another day…

  9. My home page does not show a password change link but a pin link and even though I tried changing it , it tells me I cannot within 24 hours of already changing it , which I hadn’t .
    Definitely glitch.

  10. Uh oh, I already changed mine earlier today based on the first reports of the 1,000 point offer. Am I not going to get the points?

  11. Lucky- You might want to update your title as this is not active yet. Hilton has put out an update, so any password changes now WILL NOT result in points.
