Reminder: 1,000 Hyatt Bonus Points Per Mobile Booking

There are some promotions that are lucrative but easy to forget about, and this is one of them.

In early October I posted about how Hyatt is offering 1,000 Gold Passport bonus points per booking made through their mobile app. The promotion is valid for eligible stays through December 31, 2014.

While the terms state that bonus points will post 2-3 weeks after the qualifying stay, they’ve been posting much faster than that, in my experience.

All around hotel promotions are pretty lame this fall, so this in and of itself is among the best promotions there is. That’s why I’m posting a reminder, since you have to take action every time you make a booking to maximize this promotion. I actually only thought of posting a reminder when I found myself booking a Hyatt stay through the website yesterday afternoon, and then quickly cancelled it and made it through the app instead.

I value Gold Passport points at ~1.5 cents each, so to me that’s like a $15 bonus per stay. It’s even more lucrative in conjunction with Hyatt’s fall promotion, offering 50,000 bonus points after 2o nights. That being said, that promotion was targeted, and in my case I already maxed out that promotion weeks ago.

Obviously the reason they’re offering a bonus is because they want to get people used to making bookings through the mobile app. Over the coming years mobile will account for an even larger percentage of hotel bookings, so naturally Hyatt wants you to download their new app and get used to it.

I’ve gotta be honest, in the past I never enjoyed booking hotel stays through an app, though Hyatt’s app is excellent, in my opinion. My Gold Passport account automatically stays logged in and my credit card is on file, so it’s as quick to use the app as it is to use the website.

As a reminder, if you don’t have a smart phone (or just don’t want to use the app) you can use an emulator on your computer to mimic the mobile site.

Have you been maximizing this bonus, and what are your thoughts on Hyatt’s mobile app?

  1. Hi Ben,

Off topic. Do you have any advice on using miles for upgrades among airline partners? For example using USAir miles to upgrade from economy to business on Qatar or BA.

  2. I was on the phone with Hyatt. Some properties are not posting the 1,000 bonus points and some are not. They were able to manually adjust that until yesterday but it looks like a memo went out to CSRs telling them not to do that anymore and wait for the system to process them. Keep track of your bonuses and follow up with Hyatt if you don’t see them after 2-4 weeks.

  3. @ John — With few exceptions this isn’t possible. Star Alliance has an alliance upgrade program, though it requires booking near full fare tickets. Don’t know of such an option with oneworld.

  4. Ben,

Ah, I was looking at the Qatar website and I thought it said you could use oneworld miles or qmiles for upgrades but upon closer reading that doesn’t seem to be the case.

What about Amex points? If I roll them to ANA or BA can I use those to upgrade just like avios I earned flying BA?

  5. @ Chris — If they’re back to back nights then they wouldn’t qualify as such, since they’d still only be registered as one stay.
