Air France FlyingBlue December/January Promo Awards — Up To 50% Off

One of the best uses of Air France/KLM FlyingBlue miles is booking their Promo Awards. FlyingBlue publishes these every month, and offer 25-50% off award tickets on Air France and KLM metal. Back in the day Promo Awards would consistently be for 50% off and would have a good number of options in business class, though unfortunately they’ve devalued the program somewhat since then, and the discounts now vary.

However, there are still some great values to be had. FlyingBlue just published their latest Promo Awards. These are valid for bookings made between October 1 and October 31, 2014, and for travel between December 1, 2014 and January 31, 2015. This can be a pretty useful Promo Award period, given that it’s valid for travel over the holidays.

For this Promo Award period, the following destinations in North America are available:

  • Europe to Boston / Business Class / Air France / 25% off
  • Europe to Chicago / Economy / KLM / 25% off
  • Europe to Houston / Economy / KLM / 25% off
  • Europe to Houston / Premium Economy / Air France / 25% off
  • Europe to Miami / Business Class /Air France / 25% off
  • Europe to Washington / Economy Class / KLM / 25% off

As you can see, these are all for 25% off, and there are only two options in business class, which is kind of disappointing. However, do keep in mind that economy awards can be a good value as well. Taxes, fees, and fuel surcharges are under $200 each way for economy awards, which is significantly less than in the past, given that FlyingBlue decreased fuel surcharges on economy class award tickets last June. That was one of the positive aspects of their award chart changes.

If you are looking for 50% off business class Promo Awards, there are lots of great values to be had for travel outside the US. For example:

  • Europe to Delhi / Business Class / Air France & KLM / 50% off
  • Europe to Fukuoka / Business Class / KLM / 50% off
  • Europe to Ho Chi Minh City / Business Class / Air France / 50% off
  • Europe to Tokyo / Business Class / Air France & KLM / 50% off

Check out the full listing of Promo Awards. The December and January Promo Awards are bookable as of tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1, 2014. Meanwhile the previous Promo Awards are still bookable.

As a reminder, FlyingBlue is transfer partners with Membership Rewards, and points generally transfer instantly.

Bottom line

I won’t be going out of my way to redeem points for any of these, but there are definitely some good values to be had if you’re interested in traveling on Air France and KLM over the coming months.

  1. Hello Ben!

First time commenting on an article -> Great website!
Regarding Air France but not the topic of your article, have you already thought of trying the new First class product (allegedly launched today (to SIN + CGK)) in the upcoming months? I know you went to the NYC exhibition and was curious about your possible future AF ‘F’ plans.

    Merci,
    Olivier

  2. @ Olivier — Thanks for reading! I’d certainly like to, but it’s prohibitively expensive at the “Flex” award level. If a good opportunity arises you can bet I will!

  3. Hi @Lucky,

I’m having trouble to find the EU-KIX/Osaka in economy 20.000 miles for a one way, the lowest miles I can find is 40.000 for the one-way (which is listed as the return amount on the offer site.

Can you find a 20k to Asia for this promo?
    Cheers,
    Eric

  4. @ Eric — Noticing the same thing. Sometimes it takes them a day or so to update the prices for these promo awards, so I’d just give it a short while.

  5. Lucky–might be a silly question but is it possible to combine two promo awards in a single itinerary e.g. US-Europe and Europe-Japan for example? Or do they have to booked separately to get the promo pricing?
