American Airlines just announced a promotion whereby members can earn bonus miles on flights to Asia this year.
Hong Kong Skyline
Namely, flights between Dallas Fort Worth and both Hong Kong and Shanghai, or between Chicago and Shanghai are eligible for bonus AAdvantage miles based on the class of service. Flights must be operated by American, and you must fly the roundtrip to be eligible.
You can earn 25,000 bonus miles per roundtrip in paid first or business class, 10,000 bonus miles per roundtrip in more expensive economy fare classes, and 5,000 bonus miles in most discounted economy fare classes, excluding the “O” fare bucket.
Registration is required prior to travel using promotion code ASIA2, and travel must be completed by December 6th, 2014.
Frustratingly, only flights purchased beginning June 24th, 2014 will count towards this promotion, which is bad luck for those of us who already have several trips to Asia planned for fall. I’ve already booked a couple of roundtrip flights to Hong Kong for $800, and have the upgrades to business class already confirmed.
The full terms read as follows:
AAdvantage bonus mileage offer is valid on American Airlines operated nonstop flights for a round-trip itinerary between Dallas/Fort Worth and Hong Kong or Shanghai, or between Chicago and Shanghai from June 24, 2014, through December 6, 2014. Includes travel on codeshare flights marketed by US Airways and operated by American Airlines (booked under the US flight number). Includes First Class and Business Class fares booked in F, A, P, J, R, D or I; select Economy Class fares booked in Y, B, H, K, M, L, V, G, S, N, or Q on American Airlines operated flights.
^Bonus miles will be awarded based on the booking class purchased and can only be earned for a maximum of four round-trips. This offer only applies to new bookings made on/or after June 24, 2014. Flights operated by other codeshare partners are not eligible for this promotion. Bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status. Registration prior to travel is required.
The Dallas > Hong Kong flight is operated by American’s new 777-300ER, which features American’s brand new fully flat first and business class products. For what it’s worth, fares to Hong Kong tend to be pretty reasonable in fall, so this could be a great use of systemwide upgrades if you need to requalify for Executive Platinum status.
Similar to their bonus promotion to Europe this summer, I don’t think this is worth going out of your way for. However, if you are planning a trip to Asia this year it certainly makes sense to pick up the extra miles!
