Daily Getaways is a promotion sponsored by American Express and the U.S. Travel Association, and is intended to boost US tourism. Every weekday from May 19 through June 20, 2014travel packages and getaways will be on sale at discounted prices. The good thing is that you don’t have to decide on your dates or travel right away, because most packages come in the form of certificates or points, which can be redeemed over time.

A few things to keep in mind for all of these travel packages:

  • Travel packages go on sale at 1PM ET, so you’ll want to be there a couple of minutes early if you want to take full advantage of it
  • You get a 10% discount for paying with your American Express Card, which will be applied at the time of purchase
  • Some travel packages sell out quickly, so if one shows as “sold out,” keep refreshing your browser and more packages may become available from people that “reserved” one in their cart but didn’t complete the purchase

Today Daily Getaways is offering two discounted Fairmont packages:

  • Save 24% and get away to Hawaii! Stay 6 nights at your choice of two spectacular Fairmont Hawaii Resorts: The Fairmont Kea Lani, Maui or The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii. Package includes daily breakfast for two.
  • Enjoy 3 nights at the Fairmont Scottsdale in Arizona! Save 33% with this getaway that includes a standard Fairmont Room, daily breakfast for 2 and all taxes and gratuities!

There are 12 Hawaii packages available for $1,980 each ($1,782 if paying with an AmEx), while there are 10 Scottsdale packages available for $675 each ($607.50 if paying with an AmEx). In both cases the certificates don’t expire and you don’t have to redeem them all at once.

Anyway, this is the last day of Daily Getaways, and I can’t say I’ll miss it much. The sale of Hyatt Gold Passport points was a great deal a couple of weeks back, though they were gone in a split second. I also though the sale of Club Carlson Gold Points was a good deal and took advantage of it, though go figure the next day Club Carlson sold points directly even cheaper.

What did you think of Daily Getaways this year?

Comments

  1. Fairmont Hawaii package looks interesting but odds of scoring it are lower than having a pleasant United Club experience in Chicago 😛

  2. Lucky – have you tried using Alaska miles to redeem domestic first class seats on American? If, how was your experience, on a scale of 1 to 10, was it a walk in the park (1) or a nightmare (10)?

  3. Tried and failed. Would have bought either, but no such luck. 2 years now. Ah well, I usually end up getting rates about this price anyway for the orchid.

  4. Just received my 3 certificates in the mail from the Scottsdale package. Can I use these at any Category A or B property? The certificates and packaging make no reference to the Scottsdale Princess, just that it is a Category B certificate. And they include a sheet that lists all properties by category.

I planned on using them in Scottsdale, and probably still will, but it would be interesting if I had some other options.
