Today Is Sapphire Preferred First Friday Favorites

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. I don’t write about it every month, but I figure once in a while it’s worth posting a reminder of this. Last year Chase introduced First Friday Favorites, whereby you earn 3x points on dining when paying with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card on the first Friday of every month.

You ordinarily earn two points per dollar spent on dining, so this is an additional point per dollar. In the end you’re really earning 3 Ultimate Rewards points per dollar spent on dining today.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is my all around favorite personal credit card as it stands, between the double points on dining and travel, no foreign transaction fees, and the fact that the card is just damn sexy.

So while this doesn’t materially alter your points earning ability (well, unless you’re like paying for wedding catering today or something), lunch and dinner does taste a bit better when it’s earning you lots of miles…

…miles that I actually redeemed so that I can have dinner on a plane tonight, where no credit card is needed. 😉

The one consideration this month is that the Chase Freedom Q2 5x points bonus category is actually for restaurants (and Lowe’s), so you’d earn 5x points for dining on that card. If you have that card in conjunction with a Chase Sapphire Preferred, then those points can be redeemed as “premium” Ultimate Rewards points. That being said, on the Chase Freedom the bonus is capped on $1,500 of spend per quarter, so if you’ve exceeded that you’d be better off putting your spend on the Sapphire Preferred.

Happy dining!

  1. Not that credit card offers aren’t fascinating, but when do you plan to get on a plane again? #tripreportwithdrawal 😉

  2. Yep! Chase Freedom’s 5 UR points is the ticket, especially as I don’t think I’ll hit the $1500 cap this quarter for Restaurants and Lowe’s! Plus I get 3 UA Miles per $ on the Rewards Network restaurants!

  3. Just so happens my daughter graduated on Friday – took the family out to dinner to celeabrate… a whopping $800 tab! Fortunate timing for bonus points.
