Yesterday I posted about some ~$1,650 business class fares between New York and Buenos Aires on American, which are pretty awesome, especially since all revenue business class fares on American can be upgraded to first class.
The ticketing deadline on those fares was supposed to be yesterday, though the fare is still available. There’s not as much availability as there was yesterday, but I still see plenty of dates in the ~$1,650 range.
On top of that there are a couple of other great South America fares worth mentioning:
~$2,200 business class fares to Sao Paulo during the World Cup!
Award availability to Brazil for the World Cup (June 12-July 13, 2014) has been virtually non-existent. For the most part, the best I’ve been able to recommend to people is to book a standard business class award on American (which costs 200,000 miles roundtrip) or a mid-level business class award on Delta (which costs 200,000 miles roundtrip).
However, American is running a business class fare sale to Brazil right now, and the fares are available over the World Cup.
Best of all, select flights to Sao Paulo are operated by the 777-300ER, featuring American’s new first and business class product.
Not only do you get a great business class product (I flew it from New York to Sao Paulo and then Sao Paulo to New York), but in theory you can also use systemwide upgrades to confirm a first class seat (though availability is tight on the new product, with just eight first class seats).
So while this isn’t the cheapest fare I’ve ever seen to Brazil, this is an AMAZING deal for a business class ticket there during the World Cup. If you’re planning on going to the World Cup and currently have standard business class awards booked, I would totally recommend canceling and rebooking under this deal. I can’t imagine this deal will last, and my guess is that American probably meant to put date restrictions in this fare but didn’t.
~$2,200 business class fares to Rio de Janeiro for Carnival
Confession time — I don’t “get” Carnival. I’ve read about it online and looked up pictures, but I’m still not sure what makes it different than the daily Disney World parade (other than the presence of alcohol — maybe that’s the answer?). I also do what I can to avoid big crowds anyway, which means both the World Cup and Carnival aren’t for me. But I know it’s a big thing for some, and it’s held in mid-February of next year. Both American and TAM have business class fares out of New York for under $2,200 roundtrip.
Unfortunately American only flies 767s to Rio de Janeiro, which don’t feature a first class product and feature angled flat seats in business class.
That being said, American is slowly beginning the process of retrofitting their 767s with a new business class product, so there’s a chance that by next February these flights will feature the new product.
While these aren’t mileage run fares, they’re both really good fares for anyone looking to attend the World Cup or Carnival. Hope someone is able to take advantage of them!
