Free Miles With Facebook AAdvantage Passport Challenge

American just unveiled the AAdvantage Passport Challenge, whereby you can earn bonus AAdvantage miles by answering trivia questions and playing games through their Facebook page. The questions and games are all pretty straightforward, and are intended to familiarize you with American’s offerings, in terms of the airline itself, the merger, their frequent flyer program, and their partners.

You can earn the following number of miles through the promotion:

  • Play trivia and other games to earn up to 700 miles
  • Share and complete social actions to earn up to 350 miles
  • Fly our expanded network to earn over 9,000 miles

I decided just to play the trivia and games for 700 miles, which I completed in about 10 minutes. I didn’t feel like spamming my Facebook friends for an extra 350 miles, and maybe I’ll be able to earn some of the bonus miles associated with flying as well.

Once you go to the AAdvantage Passport Challenge Facebook page you’ll be prompted to enter your name and AAdvantage number.

From there you’ll be brought to your “dashboard,” where you’ll see all the trivia and game categories with which you can earn miles.

Most categories have five questions, and they’re pretty straightforward.

Once you complete each challenge the “badges” will be greyed out and the number of miles you earned will be displayed.

In terms of the actual bonuses for flying, they’re as follows:

  • Earn AAdvantage® miles for flying any US Airways operated flight between March 21 and May 23, 2014 to get the full 500 bonus miles for this stamp
  • Earn AAdvantage® miles for flying any non-U.S. international flight on American Airlines or US Airways from March 21 to May 23, 2014 to get the full 500 bonus miles for this stamp
  • Earn AAdvantage® miles for flying the US Airways Shuttle from March 21 to May 23, 2014 to get the full 500 bonus miles for this stamp
  • Earn AAdvantage® miles for flying any non-U.S. international flight on American Airlines or US Airways from March 21 to May 23, 2014 to get the full 500 bonus miles for this stamp
  • Earn AAdvantage® miles for flying any oneworld® partner airlines (besides American Airlines and US Airways) from March 21 to May 23, 2014 to get the full 500 bonus miles for this stamp
  • From March 21 to May 23, 2014 – beat your personal Elite Qualifying Points goal and earn 2,500 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles!

Then if you complete multiple of the above you earn additional bonus miles, as follows:

  • Complete 3 and earn an additional 500 bonus miles
  • Complete 4 and earn an additional 1,000 bonus miles
  • Complete 5 and earn an additional 4,500 bonus miles

The promotion is available to US residents through May 23, 2014. For what it’s worth the bonus miles post to eligible AAdvantage accounts 3-4 weeks after the completion of the promotion. For more details check out the full terms and conditions.

Bottom line

I value 700 AAdvantage miles at ~$13, which isn’t bad for playing ten minutes worth of games. If you don’t mind spamming your Facebook friends or have upcoming travels that would fall in one of the above categories you can come out even further ahead.

  1. WTF?!?!?!?!?!?! Open only to US residents???? I could use those free 1050 miles. AA miles are so hard to come by if you don’t live in the US….

  2. lucky, you can set the posts to show to only yourself, and thus spam yourself and get the extra bonus points and then delete the posts from your timeline. No one else will ever see the posts. I just did this and received 1090 miles, and potentially more once I take my flights next week on BA and internationally!

  3. I earned 735 miles… I’m back at the My Passport page. Is there a button I’m support to click to finish playing the game; or is it open until whenever the game ends?

    Thanks

  4. anytime it asked you to share something on FB you can set it to ‘custom’ and then to ‘only me’ so that you can still earn the extra miles.

  5. This new AA Passport site FACEBOOK game page just crashed. Site showing: “System is Unavailable – come back later”.

  6. Anyone know where the answers are posted? That would make the whole process quicker and easier for all of us…..

  7. Also, make sure to click on the fly for miles buttons, there is a game for those too that gives you 50 miles for each of them and then when you actually fly you get the other 450 for the 500 total per badge. But even if you don’t fly them you still get the 50 per badge.

I’m actually in Ireland about to take a short flight over to Scotland on a oneworld partner, going to switch my credit to AA because of tthe bonus points from this game, haha.

  8. Did 20 stamps and got 1125 miles (set posting permissions to Only Me to avoid spamming friends).

  9. Hey I actually shared with my friends and deleted the messages instantly while still earning the miles. Is this a glitch?

  10. Will earning these points keep my current miles from expiring (they are set to expire in late July?). Will earning these count as account activity?

  11. So how long does it take for those miles to post? I completed most of the stuff some 3 weeks ago and have yet to see a single mile in my AAdvantage account.

  12. I entered the challenge and got 22 stamps. However, on the stamp for 2,500, fly and earn. I got a goal of needing 3,300 miles. I have flown 3 times since the start and have not received any of the miles as I travel.

  13. So I flew the 2200 miles I needed but they posted to my Us Air account (even though 1 leg was on AA and the other on US) so does that mean I won’e get the miles, for the AA passport challenge.

  14. @ DJP_707 — Correct, if you credited them to US Airways they wouldn’t count towards this American promotion.

  15. So has anyone’s Aadvantage Passport Challenge miles actually been posted to their account?
No sign of mine yet and , like KatieF,my Aadvantage miles expire soon. Looks like I’ll have to purchase some more…
