To be honest I don’t usually take advantage of the American Express “sync” promotions, mainly because I’m not really confident enough in my technological abilities to do so.
But this one seemed awesome, and I figured I better start paying off my deodorant debt (see below), so I decided to give it a shot.
If you go to this page and click “Join Now” you can link your TripAdvisor account and American Express card, and once you write your next review (it doesn’t matter what it’s a review of — it can be a restaurant, hotel, etc.) you’ll get a $5 statement credit on the card you linked. The promotion is valid through December 31, 2013, but “quantities are limited,” so I’d do this sooner rather than later.
Now that’s not a huge bonus or anything, but it took me less than five minutes, and I’m pretty incompetent when it comes to this stuff, so I’m guessing most of you can do it even faster. Less than 12 hours after writing my review I received an email from American Express confirming that I’d receive a statement credit within 90 days.
The reason behind the new partnership is pretty cool as well. You’ll be able to connect with other American Express travelers, but more importantly if you paid for your experience with an American Express card that’s linked your review will show “Amex Card Member Review.” There are always questions as to whether TripAdvisor reviews are fake or not, so that’s actually kind of a cool way of confirming the legitimacy of a review.
Anyway, this was especially timely for me, since I went on a bit of a deodorant binge at QFC (local grocery store) yesterday, and of course used my American Express Premier Rewards Gold card to earn double points (the same card I linked with the TripAdvisor sync). As y’all know I don’t do many things in moderation, so when QFC had discounted my preferred deodorant from $2.99 to $1, I may have gone a bit overboard. Let’s just say I now have a lifetime supply of deodorant. That stuff doesn’t expire… does it?
Yeah, I was about this happy in the “personal care” aisle:
