Update: Triple points on the first Friday of each month is no longer available.

Earlier this year the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card introduced a new benefit whereby you earn triple points for all dining purchases made on the first Friday of each month. The card ordinarily offers double points on dining purchases, already making it the best card for dining spend, but earning an extra point per dollar is a nice added bonus.

Anyway, since I haven’t mentioned it since the program was introduced I figured I’d post a reminder, given that tomorrow (Friday, October 4) is the first Friday of the month. If there’s a restaurant you go to all the time it might be worth buying a gift card tomorrow.

I value Ultimate Rewards points at roughly two cents each, so while that isn’t an amazing return for holding a gift card long term, if it’s a place you frequent it’s better than nothing.

  1. I don’t see what the angle on this is.

i’d be curious to know how many points other people have been able to eek out of this promo.

  2. Also, Friday seems to be a strange choice since Friday is a popular day to dine out. why not choose a day least likely to have dine out?

  3. @ anon — I don’t think their goal is to get you to dine out, I think their goal is to get you to use your Sapphire Preferred when you do dine out. So I think that’s why it’s on a Friday, because it’s a popular day for people to dine out, and they want to be sure you’re thinking of your Sapphire Preferred when you are.
